Finally, Kakai Bautista, who usually does supporting roles, is finally getting to star in her own movie. The search is on for  her leading man in the said movie.

Kakai Bautista, who has been doing support roles for the longest time, is finally the lead star in her own movie.

Even Kakai could hardly believe that she will finally get her launching film.

“Shocked and overwhelmed, hindi pa siya nagsi-sink in sa system ko, e. Ha-ha-ha,” said the actress in a message.

Asked what made her say yes to the project, she answered: “You always have to say yes to great opportunities.”

Nevertheless, the comedienne does not hide the fact that she is pressured with her latest undertaking.

“Very much. Di ko muna din masyado iniisip. But I’m very excited. Sobrang mixed emotions.”

The singer-actress is set to star in an indie movie, which will be directed by director Lem Lorca (Echorsis: Sabunutan Between Good and Evil, Ned’s Project, and Water Lemon).

Recently, Kakai has been getting good feedback for her supporting roles such as in the movie Imagine You And Me with Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza and in the musical play Rak of Aegis.

She is currently doing the GMA-7 sitcom Conan The Beautician starring Mark Herras and is set to be part of Vic Sotto’s next film, Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers.

LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT GUY. In line with this, the producer of the film recently launched a search for Kakai’s leading man in the upcoming movie.

But why the need to search for a leading man when there is a number of male actors in the industry?

“Most of the leading men have soap ngayon. We have a very specific acting requirement do’n sa pelikula na,” explained Chris Cahilig, PR man-turned-film producer.

“Medyo seryoso yung pelikula pero very funny. Kakai won’t be just throwing punch lines, she will be acting heavily along with the leading man.

“That’s why we’re thinking to do the movie right. We need to open the movie to possible newcomers na magaling umarte,” he continued.

Chris, who also owns the film outfit Insight 360 Films, revealed that there have been hundreds of applicants since the announcement for the audition last week.

“Some of them are very serious, some of them are even mga medyo kilala na rin.

“I won’t reveal names. But it’s a mix of completely unknown na may potential at ng may mga pangalan na rin.”

The audition is open for aspiring actors who are in their late 20s to late 30s, “the matinee idol serious type” and physically fit. Profile and demo reels should be emailed at chriscahilig@gmail.com.

Shooting for the movie starts this September.
