JC de Vera showed his daring side in the 2016 QCinema entry Best. Partee. Ever.
In this indie film, JC had a butt exposure scene and he shot a kissing scene with another guy.
JC's character Mikey is a gay socialite who is caught selling illegal drugs.
Viewers get witness him as he adjusts to life inside prison in a span of several years.
How did he feel watching himself on screen?
"Okay lang, happy," JC said with a smile after the gala screening of his film held last October 15 at Gateway Mall.
How was it like shooting a kissing scene with Jordan Herrera?
Was it awkward for him to shoot the scene?
"Mukha ba kaming bumitaw? Parang hindi kami bumitaw. Nag-concentrate kami at that time."
How did they make themselves comfortable with each other?
"Siguro kailanga mo lang talaga siguro siyang gawin, without hesitating."
Did he have hesitations about accepting a gay character upon knowing that he would shoot a kissing scene with another guy?
"Hindi, e. Sabi ko nga sa producer namin saka sa director [HF Yambao], what do you want me to do?
"Tapos tinanong nila ako, gusto mo ba i-enumerate namin sa iyo?
"Then sabi ko, huwag niyo na lang sabihin, isurprise niyo na lang ako.
"Na-surprise nila ko kung anong gusto nilang gawin ko."
How is it different kissing a guy compared to kissing a girl?
"Confident naman ako sa gender ko talaga na lalaki ako. Talagang work lang ang ginawa ko.
"Of course, hindi siya kasing sarap ng babae," said JC with a laugh.
"Siyempre, lips pa rin ng lalaki yun. Pero ginawa namin ang trabaho namin at tingin ko, na-pull off namin ang scene na iyon."
How many takes did they have for that kissing scene?
"One lang. Kaya grabe ang concentration namin at focus kasi alam namin once lang namin iyon gagawin."
Is he willing to shoot a love scene with a guy in the future?
"Let's see. Ito kasi gatepass ko ito, e. Kung ano ang magiging review nito, kung anong mangyari in the future, iyon ang magsasabi kung uulit ba ako o hindi.
"Not sure ko pa kung anong gagawin ko in the future."
Is he keeping that option open?
"I don't know," he admitted.
JC's risk paid off since he won the Best Actor trophy during the awards night of the 2016 QCinema International Film Festival.
