Angel Locsin was already training for the movie Darna but unfortunately, her health condition finally prevents her from reprising the role of the superheroine.
According to ABS-CBN executives, they would love to "see Angel fly again as Darna" but the Kapamilya actress experienced back pain twice.
For this reason, her doctor has recommended Angel not to engage in extreme activities to avoid permanent damage to her spine.
She might not be doing the superheroine movie but Angel will still be busy doing four projects. One of them is a special role in the upcoming Kathryn Bernardo-Daniel Padilla fantaserye La Luna Sangre.
Angel will again be reunited with John Lloyd Cruz, her leading man in Imortal.
In addition, Angel will also do a movie with Coco Martin and a movie with James Reid. The 31-year-old actress will also star in an upcoming Kapamilya teleserye.
It will be recalled that Angel played the komiks superheroine for GMA-7's telefantasya Darna in 2005.
Star Cinema announced in 2013 that its movie version of Darna would be directed by Erik Matti.
In October 2015, it was disclosed that Angel was diagnosed with a disc bulge in her spine preventing her from doing the movie. The ABS-CBN actress underwent a series of operations for this condition but unfortunately, this is not enough for her to bring life anew to Darna.
Here is the statement sent by Kane Errol Choa, Corporate Communications Head:
"ABS-CBN, Star Cinema, and Angel Locsin have mutually arrived at a final decision that she will no longer pursue the “Darna” movie due to her medical condition.
"We gave Angel our full support during and after her treatment in hopes that she would portray the iconic Filipino heroine. Because of Angel’s passion and dedication, she resumed training for the movie after undergoing surgery and therapy for the disc bulge in her spine.
"Unfortunately, Angel experienced back pain twice during training, prompting her doctor to advise her not to participate in strenuous activities to avoid permanent damage on her spine.
"We would have loved to see Angel fly again as Darna and take our hats off to her for the gargantuan efforts she has put in for the project.
"We wish her well as she will begin working on other projects, like a special role in “La Luna Sangre” with John Lloyd Cruz, a movie with James Reid, a movie with Coco Martin, and a teleserye."
