Sandara Park is set to make her movie comeback in Philippine cinemas through the Korean film One Step.
This is her first leading role in a major film since starting her career as a K-pop star back in 2009 through 2NE1.
It may be recalled that Dara (Sandara's nickname) was part of the South Korean girl group that was comprised of Bom, CL, and Minzy. Unfortunately, 2NE1 got disbanded on November 25, 2016.
In the musical drama One Step, Sandara plays Si Hyun, a woman who had a car accident and lost her memories. She meets Ji-il (played by actor Han Jae-seok), a composer who has lost his ability to write songs.
Both characters begin their journey of self-rediscovery through their shared love for music.
Featuring musical performances by Sandara, Jae-seok and other Korean musicians, the film is described to have a similar beat to films such as Begin Again and Once.
Director Jeon Jae Hong praised Sandara for her work ethic in an interview published in soompi.com.
“I think she’s the greatest rookie actress I’ve seen," he was quoted as saying.
"Though she started her career as a singer, she always came with her lines perfectly memorized and she barely made any mistakes. I can only remember one blooper from her. We only used one camera to film this movie and that’s not easy for an actor, but she did well.
"In my opinion, I think she should keep acting over singing [if she had to choose one].”
One Step is expected to premiere on May 10 in Philippine cinemas.
