Ai-Ai delas Alas elicited laughter from members of the entertainment press when she explained why she needed to wear prosthetics in her newest comedy movie, Our Mighty Yaya.
Talking about shooting her first scene with co-star Megan Young, Ai-Ai quipped: “Parang nanalamin lang ako. So, iniba ko yung hitsura ko!”
As the media continued to laugh, Ai-Ai reiterated that she could be mistaken for Megan’s twin.
She added, “Kaysa naman magkamali ako, ‘Ay, Megan?’ Ganun!”
Ai-Ai and Megan headlined the April 19 presscon organized by Regal Films at 38 Valencia Events Place.
Our Mighty Yaya tells the story of Yaya Virgie, a provincial but motherly nanny to three kids of Antonio "Tonichi" Sevilla (Zoren Legaspi), who just remarried a beautiful career woman named Monique (Megan Young).
Ai-Ai was required to wear prosthetics and false dentures for her to complete the look of her character and, most probably, to set her apart from her previous comic roles as well.
According to Ai-Ai, wearing prosthetics was initially quite a challenge for her.
She elaborated, “Kasi nung una medyo mali yung prosthetics kaya nagsugat yung galagid ko. Yun lang naman. Yung dentures medyo mahirap.
Then Ai-Ai joked again about “twinning” with her fellow GMA-7 star and Miss World 2013 titlist.
Twinning, e!”
As for playing the role of a “mighty yaya” in this movie directed by Joey Reyes, Ai-Ai admitted that she enjoys paying tribute to nannies who really work hard and go beyond their duties in terms of taking care of their alagas.
One fine example, she said, would be her own childhood nanny, Mers, who also took care of the Comedy Queen’s kids Sancho, Sofia, and Niccolo when they were growing up.
“Ngayon inaalagaan naman niya yung nanay ko. So umikot yung cycle.
Ai-Ai revealed that she has the utmost respect for nannies who go the extra mile when it comes to their job.
