Coco Martin is set to topbill and direct his own Panday movie.

This was revealed through Coco's Instagram account @cocomartin.ph yesterday, April 25, after the actor met with Ang Panday creator Carlo J. Caparas.

The post also revealed that this new Panday incarnation will be submitted for consideration to the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival.

The caption indicated: "Comics King & director Carlo J. Caparas granted the King of Television and Cinema @mr.cocomartin the rights of the movie Panday, which @mr.cocomartin will topbill and direct, and pitch as an entry to the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival 2017."

This will be the second time Coco is taking on a role previously played by the late Action King Fernando Poe Jr.

The first is his role as Cardo in the ongoing TV adaptation of the 1997 film Ang Probinsyano, which is extended until February 2018.

Coco's Panday will mark the comeback of the highly successful FPJ starrer on the big screen.

In 2009, Bong Revilla topbilled the movie incarnation of Panday produced by GMA Films. The movie had a sequel in 2011.

The last Panday adaptation was seen on TV5, with Richard Gutierrez portraying the lead role.

Coco's Panday movie is one of the films being considered for submission to the 2017 MMFF.

(Another one is the Janella Salvador-Elmo Magalona fantasy-romance movie My Fairy Tail Love Story.)

STORIES WE ARE TRACKING

Coco revealed during a January 2017 thanksgiving press conference that he had plans of becoming a director.

"Sabi ni Tita Malou [Santos of Star Cinema], 'Gusto mo mag-join force tayo. Tayong dalawa ang producer: Star Cinema and CCM Productions.'"

However, at the time the prospect of reuniting with Vice Ganda came up, and Coco chose to do the movie, The Super Parental Guardians, with the box-office comedian instead.

Coco is very vocal about saying he looks up to the late Fernando Poe Jr.

"Marami kasi siyang tinurong magagandang values.
