PEP EXCLUSIVE: What were Most-Searched Movies in 1st Quarter 2017 based on Google PH?

Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil's My Ex and Whys is the only Pinoy film to make it to Google Philippines' Top 10 Most-Searched Movies in the first quarter of 2017.



Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil's My Ex and Whys emerged as the only Filipino film to enter the Top 10 most-searched movies from January-March 2017.

This was based on data exclusively provided by Google Philippines to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

The other entries were certified Hollywood blockbusters.

PEP presents the Top 10 trending movies during the 1st quarter of 2017, based on Google Philippines.

1. Beauty and the Beast


Released in the Philippines on March 16, 2017, the new adaptation of this Disney classic featured Emma Watson in the role of Belle and Dan Stevens as the Prince/Beast.

Eleven days after it opened in Philippine cinemas, the movie earned P541.67 million and became the sixth highest-grossing movie of all-time in the Philippines to date.

2. Moana


This Disney full-length animated film opened on November 30, 2016 in the Philippines, but it still managed to make it to the trending films during the first quarter of 2017, according to Google Philippines.

In early 2017, Moana received several nominations in prestigious award-giving bodies such as the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes.

ABS-CBN singer-actress Janella Salvador was tapped to interpret Moana's official theme song "How Far I'll Go" for the Philippines. She even went to Singapore last November to perform with other Asian interpreters of the song.

3. My Ex and Whys


This Valentine offering, which opened in cinemas last February 15, featured the love team of Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil.

Even before its release, My Ex and Whys already became viral because of its teaser wherein Liza's character Cali asked Enrique's Gio: "Pangit ba ako?"

Of course, being one of the prettiest faces in showbiz, Liza uttering this line became a source of memes and witty tweets from netizens.

On March 3, according to Star Cinema, My Ex and Whys had a total box-office gross of P341 million worldwide.

5. Fifty Shades Darker


Fifty Shades Darker is the sequel to the 2015 American movie Fifty Shades of Grey starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. The erotic drama film was released in the Philippines on February 8, 2017.

6. Between Us


Between Us is a 2016 American drama film starring Olivia Thirlby and Ben Feldman. In this movie, Olivia and Ben played a young adult couple who had fears of settling down as their carefree days were about to end.

7. The Great Wall


The Great Wall is an action adventure movie topbilled by Matt Damon, where he played a mercenary who helped a Chinese army battle with monsters. The film was released locally on January 25, 2017.

8. Kong: Skull Island


This 2017 American movieĀ starring Tom Hiddleston is a reboot of the King Kong franchise. It featured a team of scientists who traveled to an uncharted island where they encountered terrifying creatures such as the mighty Kong. It was released in the Philippines last March 9.

9. John Wick 2



The second chapter of the John Wick series starred Keanu Reeves and was released in the Philippines last February 8. The film was set in Russia where John Wick had to face off with deadly killers.

10. Kung Fu Yoga


Kung Fu Yoga featured martial arts superstar Jackie Chan. It was locally distributed by ABS-CBN's film arm, Star Cinema, last February 1.
