Former 2NE1 member Sandara Park is currently in Manila to promote her latest movie project titled One Step.
A press conference for the Korean movie was held last Saturday, May 6, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Quezon City.
One Step, directed by Jeon Jae-Hong and produced by MCC Entertainment, is scheduled to hit the theaters this Wednesday, May 10, in select Robinsons Cinemas nationwide.
Sandara is cast as Si Hyun who experiences “colored hearing.” She acquired this rare condition that allows her to visualize sounds as colors. She meets the character of Ji-il (Han Jae-Seok), a composer who lost his ability to write songs. Ji-Il will help her “find the melody she hears in her dreams.”
“Filipinos love music so much and this movie is all about music and overcoming yung fear mo through music,” Dara (Sandara's nickname) told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview.
“I think makaka-relate lahat ng tao kasi nung una akala ko hindi ako makaka-relate, kasi siyempre wala naman akong amnesia and wala ring color yung [music].”
At the presscon, the 32-year-old singer/actress expressed her excitement to experience her first premiere night in the Philippines.
“I think, I’m expecting more wild crowd from the Philippines kasi ganun naman talaga since dati,” Dara narrated.
“Sa Korea, sa concerts they’re wild pero sa movie house, quiet lang sila.
“Pero here, yung latest movie na napanood ko sa movie house was My Ex and Whys… Nandun ako nakatago and then yung mga tao talaga [sumisigaw], ganun, so parang more fun.
“So I’m expecting that kind of reaction, pero medyo malungkot yung movie ko ngayon…”
Dara had a cameo role in the movie My Ex and Whys which starred Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano.
The former ABS-CBN talent wanted to stay a bit longer to attend her fans’ block screenings for the movie. However, Dara’s stay was cut short to three days due to her hectic schedules. Currently, Sandara is also filming another movie titled Cheese in the Trap.
“I really want to go but I have shooting in Korea in May 9, so from the airport diretso shooting and out of town pa, kaya sayang.
“Pero kung may chance, I really want to go kasi before walang block screening, nung mga panahon ko.”
ONE STEP. Dara has been described by the film's director as a "great rookie actress," especially when it came to her work ethics.
The singer/actress admitted that she was a bit worried while filming her debut film in South Korea.
Dara credited her experience doing films in the Philippines as a great help while doing this international project.
The Star Circle Quest alumna starred in four movies produced in the Philippines: Bcuz of U (2004), Can This Be Love (2005), D' Lucky Ones (2006), and Super Noypi (2006).
"Kasi that time, marami akong movies, marami rin akong telenovelas. Hanggang ngayon, nandun pa rin yung mga experiences ko."
Dara also faced other challenges while working on the film.
The Star Circle Quest runnerup told the press, "Yung mga eksena na kunyare nakikita ko yung songs in colors, so siyempre, di ba, sa movie may special effects, siyempre sa set wala."
