"Yes, it's confirmed! Tinatanggap ko na po ang role na Darna!"
This was the line that Liza Soberano said in a report aired on TV Patrol earlier today, May 30.
This also confirms that after months of speculation, the 19-year-old actress will be finally taking on the role of the iconic Pinay superheroine.
According to the report of the ABS-CBN primetime newscast, Liza will start training in the coming weeks.
It was first announced that the Darna movie will return to the big screen in 2013, with Erik Matti as director and Star Cinema as producer.
At that time, Angel Locsin was supposed to play the superheroine role, which she played in GMA-7 in 2005.
However, health reasons forced her to back out of the project twice.
It was first reported by PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last May 3 that there were talks at the Kapamilya network that Liza will be the next anointed Darna.
Her manager Ogie Diaz also confirmed last March 26 that Liza is indeed one of the choices of her home network.
Meanwhile, viewers will have to wait for further announcements about the stars who will portray as Darna's archnemesis Valentina, sidekick Ding, and her leading man (who had various names such as Efren and Eduardo in previous editions).
