Piolo Pascual confirms delay in the screening of upcoming movie Kita Kita.
The actor-producer said in the press conference on June 27 that the movie was supposed to be shown in the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.
“But we pulled out even if we paid for the registration already.
“We just decided na parang mas pagandahin pa yung pelikula,” said Piolo, who is part of the independent movie production firm Spring Films.
Since there were changes in MMFF rules, the owners of Spring Films decided not to join the annual movie festival.
He recalled, “There was a deadline, di ba, last year? So, hinabol namin ang deadline.
“But the last minute, we decided na ayusin na lang muna yung pelikula at huwag i-risk and mas pagandahin pa ang pelikula.”
Piolo and his co-producers have no regrets over their decision.
In fact, they are proud of the movie that will star an unlikely love team: Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy.
“Ako kasi, risky ako na tao. Kapag naniwala ako sa proyekto, kasama pati pato,” said Piolo.
“So, regardless of the outcome... Of course, you want it to succeed. But basta naniwala ako sa isang konsepto, paninindigan ko yun until the end, especially if you have people working with you who believe in the project.”
For Piolo, producing a quality film is part of his responsibility as a showbiz personality.
“Sa pelikulang ito, kasama na rin sa responsibilidad natin bilang member ng entertainment industry ang gumawa ng pelikula na puwede nating ipakilala hindi lang dito kung di pati sa ibang bansa.
“And being in the entertainment industry, gusto natin na nag-e-enjoy tayo sa pinapanood natin, gusto natin na nasisiyahan tayo.
“Siguro sa amin ni Direk Joyce [Bernal], Erickson [Raymundo], sa Spring Films, ito na yung puwede naming contribution sa pelikulang Pilipino, ang makagawa ng mga pelikulang hindi nakakahon o hindi siya limitado.”
Piolo believes that movie producers still have a lot to offer to Pinoy viewers.
“We're just really happy that we're able to come up with concepts like these, na puwede nating paglaruan.
“So, marami kasing istorya na puwede nating bigyan ng chance to come up with a film like this.
“Sa akin naman, bilang artista, gamble din naman lahat ng ginagawa natin.
“So, why not do it? Just do it and excite people, excite yourself, para may bago ka rin na binibigay sa audience mo,” he said.
This romantic-comedy movie directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo had its world premiere at the Osaka Film Festival 2017 last March.
Kita Kita will be shown in cinemas nationwide on July 19.
