100 Tula Para Kay Stella, Patay Na Si Hesus, and Bar Boys will have an extended run after Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. The 12 PPP entries earned P127 million at the box office in 6 days of showing.

Will Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino be extended?

This is the question on everyone's mind now that the one-week film festival spearheaded by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is over.

From August 16-22, 2017, there were no Hollywood films screened across the Philippines to give way to these 12 Filipino full-length entries:

100 Tula Para Kay Stella by Jason Paul Laxamana
Ang Manananggal sa Unit 23B by Prime Cruz
AWOL by Enzo Williams
Bar Boys by Kip Oebanda
Birdshot by Mikhail Red
Hamog by Ralston Jover
Paglipay by Zig Madamba Dulay
Patay na si Hesus by Victor Villanueva
Pauwi Na by Paolo Villaluna
Salvage by Sherad Anthony Sanchez
Star na si Van Damme Stallone by Randolph Longjas
Triptiko by Miguel Franco Michelena

The FDCP announced that on August 21, after a span of six days, the combined earnings at the box office of the 12 entries stood at P127 million.

To answer the burning question about extending the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, FDCP Chairperson Liza Diño-Seguerra uploaded a Facebook Live video to make an announcement.

She revealed that three entries will have an extended run while the nine remaining entries will be shown in Cine Lokal.

Liza Dino said in her video, "I know nag-trend po ang #ExtendPPP. We want to extend our deepest gratitude for everyone who supported.

"But marami pong lalabas na films tomorrow at naka-schedule na po talaga.

"We have to be fair sa mga bagong pelikula na lalabas.

"Hindi na po ma-extend talaga ang Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Hindi na nga siya ma-extend, but there are three films that are going to be extended on a regular run.

"Hindi na po siya parte ng Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

"Ito po ang 100 Tula Para Kay Stella, Patay Na Si Hesus, and Bar Boys will be screened in selected theaters for an extended run."

The FDCP Chairperson then added: "Good news po, all the rest of the films--from AWOL, Manananggal, Birdshot, Pauwi Na, Paglipay, Triptiko, Star Na si Van Damme, Salvage--all the nine films will go to Cine Lokal!"

Cine Lokal is the partnership of FDCP with 8 SM Cinema branches: Mall Of Asia, North Edsa, Megamall, Fairview, Southmall, Bacoor, Iloilo, and Cebu. One cinema from each mall is dedicated to independently produced films selected by the FDCP.

The FDCP executive mentioned that there will be a "festival schedule" for the nine remaining entries.

She promised, "We will post po tonight the festival schedule in all of these theaters."

Liza Dino also disclosed, "Some of the films will also be screened at Cinema '76." (This is located on Luna Mencias Street, Brgy. Addition Hills, San Juan City.)

"We're going to make sure that our Cinematheques are in sync para mag-play ng mga entries ng Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

"Starting tomorrow, PPP goes to Cine Lokal. Our nine films will be screened for an entire nine days from August 23 to August 31."

Incidentally, 100 Tula Para Kay Stella and Patay Na Si Hesus were the top two highest-grossing films among the 12 entries of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

100 Tula Para Kay Stella, starring JC Santos and Bela Padilla, has grossed P80 million as of August 21, according to Viva Films.

The romance movie won the Audience Choice Award during the thanksgiving party held last Sunday, August 20.

The Jury's Choice Award went to Patay na si Hesus while the Critic's Choice Award went to Birdshot.

SECOND TOP-GROSSING FILM. Patay Na Si Hesus is the second highest-grossing movie among the 12 entries, according to Liza Dino.

In her Facebook account, she wrote:

"I hope wag ikasama ng loob ng ibang entries ang post ko na ito hehe (love ko lahat ng films) pero ang SUCCESS ng Patay na si Hesus - Movie personally validated why Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino is here as an alternative platform for our filmmakers to showcase their films.

"Second top grosser po ang Patay na si Hesus(wooohooo!) -----and this film broke all conventions about what is defined as a commercial film.

"It's regional, its in cebuano, its not your typical comedy and yet the the film is appealing to all of us. Ang pinoy audience hindi mahilig manood ng subtitles pero pinatawa tayo at pinaiyak ng pelikulang ito through subtitles. Ang galing no'n! Kaya po sila ay ginawaran ng special jury prize bec ang pinagsamang success ng kalidad ng pelikula at ang dami ng audience na sumuporta ay nagbukas ng bagong pananaw tungkol sa mga klase ng pelikulang pwedeng yakapin ng ating mga manonood.

"Congratulations sa bumubuo ng Patay na si Hesus. YOUR FILM should inspire more filmmakers, especially regional filmmakers to make films that champion their unique local stories but are universal enough to be received by everyone."
