Newbie actor Ivan Padilla (right, shown with Empoy Marquez and Alessandra de Rossi) reveals how he deals with the pressure that comes from being paired with Alessandra de Rossi for their next film, 12

“Very humbling,” sabay-tawa ni Ivan.

TRYING HIS LUCK IN LOCAL SHOWBIZ SCENE.

Dagdag pa ni Ivan, “Si Sir Vic del Rosario nag-usap kami, and I told him all the things that I wanna do with my career, that I didn’t feel I was getting in Los Angeles.

“I do martial arts, I teach martial arts at Makati Square Arena, Black Unicorn Muay Thai International, I teach Jujitsu.

“I’ve been a huge martial artist my whole life and I’ve wanted to put that in movies.

“I’ve always wanted to add that into the movies that I make.

“And Sir Vic said that they’re bringing back action movies to the Philippines and I thought bagay.

“And also, I’ve always wanted to do more romance, kasi sa U.S. ang peg ko talaga parang bad boy lang.

“Parang minsan I’m always shooting somebody or they’re shooting me,” at tumawa muli si Ivan.

“I like that, don’t get me wrong, but there are other things that I wanted to explore with my career as well.

“Not that I don’t like doing that.

“So it ended up being a really great idea because I’m having fun here in the Philippines, I’ve also been doing commercials.”

SUCCESSFUL DEBUT PROJECT.

Saad niya, “It’s so amazing! I’m so happy and thrilled.

“I could feel during the shoot that may mangyayari dito.

“I could feel na yung performances ni Bela, ni JC, I could just see something special na mangyayari.

“But I had no idea that it was gonna be as big as it is kasi indie style yung production, e.

“So I didn’t know kung talagang ready ang audience for a story like that.

“Kasi medyo iba yung istorya.”

FOLLOW-UP MOVIE.

“The pressure sa una malaki.

“Pero once we started shooting, ayun na, parang nag-click kami ni Alessandra, parang it just felt like it was the story we were focusing on.

Saad niya, “Passion project niya!

“Dati magiging indie lang ‘to, pero ang nangyari nag-hit ang Kita Kita, so siyempre naman masaya ang Viva [Films], so they offered to produce it on a grander scale.

“Which is just amazing!

“Perfect timing, I mean unbelievable timing, salamat sa Diyos!”

PRESSURE.

Pag-amin niya, “Well, what I usually do is I take that pressure, the nervousness, whatever, the energy, and I put it in the scene.

“Yung mga eksena namin, napaka… there’s so much pain and fighting and struggling and crying.”

Isang heavy drama movie raw ang 12.

“It’s a bit heavier than Kita Kita, but I think it’s really, really valuable for today.

“For today’s modern couple,” dagdag pa niya.

“I would beg,” at tumawa si Ivan.

“Please give me a chance!

“I’ve worked very hard on my craft.

“Ilang years ako nag-aral ng acting sa U.S., ilang years.

“So the most logical decision was to start in the U.S., and I don’t think it was a bad idea.

“I’ve had a lot of experience. I got to work with Oscar winners, like Salma Hayek, Edward James Olmos, and they taught me a lot about acting.

“And they’re very valuable, as well as what I’ve learned from my grandma Gloria Sevilla, my aunt Suzette Ranillo, and the workshops that I’ve done with Viva.

“I really feel ready and I think you’re gonna really love my performance [in 12].

“I really put my heart and soul, with no exaggeration, talagang binigay ko ang lahat!

“Todo-bigay sa mga eksena namin, so I think you’ll really enjoy it!”
