Is Kim Chiu being considered the next horror-movie queen after Kris Aquino?

The ABS-CBN actress is set to top-bill the horror movie The Ghost Bride, which is directed by Chito Roño.

Direk Chito also helmed Kris's blockbuster horror movies: Feng Shui (2004), Sukob (2006), and Feng Shui 2 (2014).

As for Kim, she starred in Direk Chito's 2012 horror film The Healing with Vilma Santos.

The 27-year-old actress was also part of the "Plot" segment of Shake Rattle and Roll X (2008) where she co-starred with Gerald Anderson.

During a bloggers's conference for The Ghost Bride yesterday, October 12, at Oriental Palace Restaurant in Quezon City, Kim was asked how she feels about following in the footsteps of Kris.

She said, "Siguro, iba. Iba si Ate Kris, iba siya. Siya talaga is really the horror queen by Chito Roño!

"Iba 'yon. Siyempre, ako, iba din. Siguro I'm just very thankful and honored na mabigyan ako ng ganito kalaking pelikula, na ipinagkatiwala nila sa akin ito.

"I am blessed by the trust that they have been giving to me."

Kim also said that Kris—who is one of her close friends—has been very supportive of her.

The 27-year-old actress exclaimed, "Manunuod daw siya! Sabi niya, 'Papanuorin ko kung kaya ng schedule, punta ako sa premiere night.'

"Sobra siyang supportive, 'Kamusta yung shooting? How's Direk Chito?' Okay naman. Namimiss niya si Direk Chito!"

In 2015, Kris, Kim, and Direk Chito got the chance to work together in the movie Etiquette for Mistresses.

HANDPICKED FOR THE GHOST BRIDE. In The Ghost Bride, Kim plays Mayen, a Filipino-Chinese lady who agrees to be a "ghost bride," upon the advice of the mysterious matchmaker Angie Lao, played by Alice Dixson.

A "Ghost Bride" is a Chinese tradition where a lady gets married to a deceased man to ensure that he is not alone in the afterlife.

According to Direk Chito, Kim was handpicked for the role of Mayen, mainly because of her Chinese heritage.

He explained, "Talagang para kay Kim, kasi noong nag-decide kami ng magiging Ghost Bride, it has to be somebody na within the Chinese [community]... kasi the story involves a Chinese family.

"Parang pangalan lang ni Kim ang lumabas kasi not only it's going to be easier kasi marunong siya mag-Chinese, but it's also going to be exciting kasi involved yung heritage niya, mas mapi-feel niya yung character na pinoportray niya kasi hindi na siya masyado malayo.

"Pero I don't think may ibang artista na lead, it was always Kim."

Kim admitted that she feels the pressure of top-billing her own movie without any love team partner.

"Una palang talaga, sobrang kinakabahan ako. Di lang una, hanggang ngayon actually!

"Lalo na noong nakita ko yung poster, kasi parang, 'Sandali lang! Asan mga kasama ko, ako lang mag-isa!'

"So ito talaga yung parang sobra yung kaba ko. Ito na yung pinaka-kinakabahan akong project na meron ako kasi ito yung first time kong poster ako lang mag-isa!"

The Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin actress said she enjoyed doing The Ghost Bride, which opens in November 1 in cinemas.

"Enjoy, iba, sobrang ibang-iba 'tong ginawa kong 'to. Ang daming bagong experience habang ginagawa ko itong movie.

"And I'm excited na mapanuod siya ng mga tao, lalo na sa lahat ng taong mahilig sa horror movies and curious sa Chinese tradition na hindi masyadong nabo-broadcast ang pagiging Ghost Bride."
