Kim Chiu reveals she had a distant relative who became a ghost bride in real life.

The Kim Chiu-starrer The Ghost Bride has grossed P14.3 million on its opening day.

This was revealed by Star Cinema earlier today, November 2, a day after the horror film premiered on All Saints' Day.

Directed by Chito Roño, The Ghost Bride is Graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board.

This movie produced by ABS-CBN's film arm also stars Christian Bables, Robert Seña, Ina Raymundo, Beverly Salviejo, Isay Alvarez, Nanding Josef, Mon Confiado, Cacai Bautista, Victor Silayan, Jerome Ponce, and Matteo Guidicelli.

Faced with unfortunate events and financial difficulties, Mayen (played by Kim Chiu) is torn between living a normal though difficult life or accepting a strange business proposal called the Ghost Wedding in exchange for wealth and a comfortable life for her loved ones.

Being a ghost bride is a long-practiced tradition among the Chinese.

Through a ritual, a ghost bride is married to a deceased male who passed away without tying the knot while he was still living. In exchange, the ghost bride is compensated with generous financial support by his Chinese family.

In a previous interview, Kim admitted that she had a distant relative who became a ghost bride in real life.

So kamag-anak namin ay ghost bride."

When Kim asked her grandmother about this practice, she learned that those who agree to become ghost brides are forbidden from bearing children of their own.

The ABS-CBN actress disclosed the responsibilities of being a ghost bride:

"So every Monday and Friday, every weekend dadasalan mo yung patay.

Kim pointed out that her relative who became a ghost bride became very wealthy by accepting this offer.

Kasi in exchange of your time and your life is money po talaga."
