Coco Martin on what he learned about filmmaking: "Huwag kang maging makasarili kasi di mo naman ginagawa 'yan para panoorin mo lang mag-isa, e. Ginawa mo 'yan para mapanood ng lahat."

Coco Martin finally realizes his dream to become a director.

The ABS-CBN actor tries his skill behind the camera in Ang Panday, which is one of the eight movies in the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival.

In an interview with select entertainment editors and reporters, Coco admitted that it has been his dream to direct a movie since he was an indie actor.

He first discussed this with indie film director and mentor Brillante Mendoza.

Aside from Brillante, Coco also sought advice from other directors regarding the technicalities of the job. The Kapamilya actor then applied these to his first directorial project.

How does he feel when people call him Direk Coco?

The actor laughed and said, “Nakakahiya po, pero paninindigan.”

FOR VIEWERS.
When he jumped from indie to mainstream, Coco said he had a deeper understanding about filmmaking.

One of the things he learned from working on mainstream movies was to give more importance to viewers.

Coco said, “Kung dati pa ako nag-direct, pure indie 'yon, baka talagang hardcore kasi doon ako nanggaling.

MODERN PANDAY. Coco promises to give a modern twist to the classic Pinoy superhero so millennials can still appreciate it.

Coco admitted that he also had to give it a different action flavor since he is seen every day doing action scenes in the ABS-CBN prime-time series Ang Probinsyano.

He also made sure that the kids will appreciate the movie since Ang Panday was Rated-G by the MTRCB.

In conclusion, Coco said about Ang Panday, “Gusto ko ‘pag nanood sila lahat ng hinahanap nilang elements sa isang pelikula nandoon. At saka gusto ko kitang-kita yung pagiging Pilipino.”
