Dawn Zulueta admitted that she felt excited upon learning that she gets to work with a mix of ABS-CBN and GMA-7 actors in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2017 entry Meant To Beh.
In the movie, she plays the wife of Eat Bulaga! main host Vic Sotto, with ABS-CBN's JC Santos, GMA's Gabbi Garcia, and child star Sebastian "Baste" Benedict as their kids.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked Dawn during the December 7 blogcon on her thoughts about working with a mix of Kapuso and Kapamilya stars.
While she initially felt excited about the idea of combining stars from two TV stations, the ABS-CBN actress admitted that she feels sad that celebrities are currently divided because of their network contracts.
She said, "Ako, I think it's exciting when actors are able to work together without boundaries because we are only divided by the boundaries set by our contracts and I think that's sad. It did not use to be that way.
"I still came from an era wherein it was free for all, we could go anywhere and could tandem with everybody.
"Now, parang you have limitations or nagkakahiyaan, may ganun na ngayon, e."
Dawn believes that aside from network contracts, some bashers tend to cause the demarcation lines between stars from rival networks.
She continued, "You look at social media and you see, there are a lot of bashers, yun ang palaging tema nila, kasi you come from there, they come from here.
"It's such a big deal for a lot of people when it really shouldn't be, because I think we come from one industry.
"I remember once upon a time when this was industry was just one big family. And there was no such thing as you come from that clan and we come from this clan."
Dawn pointed out that having a combination of stars from the two networks is an advantage for the film.
She quipped, "So I really think that one of the things we want to say in inviting everyone to watch the movie is please watch all the movies. I hope you just watch ours first!"
Dawn turned serious and told everyone in the blogcon, "But you know, think about it this way, bihira po na magkasama sama ang mga artista na galing sa iba't ibang network and this project, we have everybody.
"It didn't matter what network you came from. We just all wanted to work together and ibalik natin yung ganyang spirit, icelebrate natin, i-celebrate natin na nagkakasama sama tayong lahat na walang klaseng boundaries na sinasabi."
Aside from Vic, Dawn, and their kids in the movie, Meant To Beh also features Kapamilya talents Sue Ramirez and Daniel Matsunaga, and Kapuso actors Andrea Torres and Ruru Madrid.
The movie opens on December 25 as part of MMFF 2017, competing with seven other films.
DOING COMEDY. PEP.ph asked Dawn what convinced her to do comedy.
It is because since she returned to acting in 2004, Dawn has been doing dramatic mother roles.
These include a special role in Encantadia (2005) and a lead role in the daytime series Now and Forever: Duyan (2005) in GMA.
When she returned to acting in 2011 in ABS-CBN, she did the projects Mula sa Puso (2011), Walang Hanggan (2012), Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin (2013), Dyesebel (2014), and You're My Home (2015).
As for movies, she did the drama film The Love Affair (2015) and the romantic-comedy Love Me Tomorrow (2016).
The 48-year-old actress said with a smile, "Dear, I've just been waiting for this opportunity. Ever since I've made a comeback, all I've done was teleseryes and I did a couple of movies.
"The last movie I did was a sort of a romcom so nakatikim ako dun ng konti na parang nakapagcomedy naman ako.
"Pero I've just been dreaming na sana magkaroon ako ng offer to do really full blast comedy."
When she was offered the role in Meant To Beh, she had no reason to say no.
"When this project came along, I was so thrilled, especially because it was gonna be with Bossing [Vic].
"The fact na naalala ako ni Bossing, na-miss ko siya! So it's really great. I sure hope na kumita ng malaki ang pelikulang ito para magka-part two tayo!"
