The rom-com Unexpectedly Yours has earned P218 million worldwide as of December 17, 2017.
This was revealed by Star Cinema through an Instagram post about the movie top-billed by Sharon Cuneta, Robin Padilla, Julia Barretto, and Joshua Garcia.
Sharon plays the mother of Julia' character while Robin is cast as the uncle of Joshua's character.
Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, this movie opened in cinemas last November 29. The movie reached the P218 million mark worldwide in a span of 19 days.
In a previous interview, Julia admitted that she doesn’t feel pressured even if her love team partner and rumored boyfriend Joshua is getting praises for his acting.
“I feel proud, actually, that’s the thing,” admitted the young actress.
This was Julia’s reaction when asked if she’s not bothered because in their pairing, it is Joshua who gets noticed more for his great acting and onscreen presence.
The JoshLia tandem started with the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival Vince, Kath, and James.
This year, they also starred in their solo project, Love You to the Stars and Back.
Their third movie, Unexpectedly Yours, saw them as support for the reunion of Sharon Cuneta and Robin Padilla on the big screen.
Does Julia feel the need to step up and level with Joshua’s performance?
The 20-year-old actress explained, “When the person you love very much is being complimented a lot, and the people are appreciating his work, his hard work, then, di ba it’s also something that I want a lot of people to see.
“And there’s no such thing as, sa teamwork namin...I think it is a teamwork at the end of the day.
“What we’re doing is supporting each other so I’m glad that whatever they are seeing, I’m there to support him.”
Joshua also came to his partner’s defense.
“Saka para sa 'kin parang wala namang angatan dito,” said the 20-year-old actor.
“As a team kaming aabutin yung mga pangarap namin.”
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and several bloggers talked to the pair during the thanksgiving digicon for Unexpectedly Yours at the 9501 Restaurant in the ABS-CBN Building, Quezon City.
"SO MUCH BETTER NOW." PEP asked if they noticed any difference in their working relationship from a year ago to their latest project.
"Yung first movie namin yung VKJ [Vince, Kath and James], sobrang hiyang-hiya pa 'ko sa kanya," Joshua revealed.
"Na hindi pa kami ganun magkakilala, hindi pa namin alam yung backstory ng isa't-isa.
"So nahihiya ako sa kanya. Lalo na siyempre Barretto siya, di ba? 'Tapos ang ganda-ganda pa.
"Nung time na yun, hiya-hiya. But this time, mas komportable kami siyempre kasi may nabuo na rin kaming pagkakaibigan sa isa't-isa, friendship. At mas malalim na this time."
For her part, Julia says they have a great relationship.
"In terms of working relationship, everything is still the same," she began.
"Everything na nararamdaman ko from him and everything na nabibigay ko sa kanya is still very natural, very real.
"And it's true, siguro from our very first movie to now, siguro yung relationship namin nag-grow. Yung closeness namin, yung comfortability level namin sa isa't-isa is just so much better.
"And everything is just so much better now."
The pair is also happy for the success of Unexpectedly Yours, which raked in gross earnings of P100 million in six days.
"Sobrang saya kasi yung Love You to the Stars [and Back], yung first week namin is 60 million," Joshua recalled.
"And this time, nag-100 million kasi sobrang blessed ho kami na makatanggap nang ganung kalaking kita."
For her part, Julia said: "I'm just very, very happy na na-appreciate ng tao yung pelikula and sa totoo lang, more than anything I am so happy for everyone behind the film.
"Direk Cathy who worked so hard for the film, I'm so happy for Tita Sharon and Tito Robin kasi this is their film, this is their comeback.
"So ang saya na naging successful, and hindi madali yung paggawa ng pelikula.
"We were shooting every single day 'cause we only had a month or less than a month to shoot it.
"So ang saya ko lang para sa lahat. From camera men, to our staff, our crew. Direk Cathy, I'm very, very happy for them. Especially Direk Cathy."
