Kris Aquino confirmed that she’s playing a "royalty" in the Hollywood film Crazy Rich Asians, which will have its world premiere on August 17.
While it is admittedly not a lead role, Kris went on to say that she’s excited to have her own shining moment in the movie adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s best-selling novel of the same title.
The movie is directed by Jon Chu and produced by Warner Bros.
“August 17 ang showing. But it’s not mine.
“I just have a really very special appearance. I play royalty, so bongga na yun!”
Kris made this revelation at the presscon of Ever Bilena held at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Mandaluyong City last January 27.
INVITE TO INT'L PREMIERES. In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and GMA News after the presscon, Kris disclosed that she’s also invited to attend the international premiere of Crazy Rich Asians.
“Doon ako nae-excite kasi we were told by Warner Bros. that I’m invited to attend several red-carpet premieres for Crazy Rich Asians.
“So sabi ko, OMG!”
Kris said she’s looking forward to dressing up for these events.
She exclaimed, laughing, “August pa naman! So, siguro mga May ko paghahandaan.
“Pero naexcite lang ako…
“And the fact na sinabi na, ‘We hope you can block out your schedule for these dates.’”
BACKSTORY. As early as April 2017, PEP reported about Kris auditioning for a Hollywood film, but that she is not allowed to give details because of a non-disclosure agreement.
That same month, PEP had an exclusive interview with Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino. According to Kris herself, Jhett paved the way for her to audition in the still-untitled Hollywood film back then.
It was only in August 2017 that Kris announced her inclusion in Crazy Rich Asians. She made the announcement only after the novel's author Kevin confirmed it himself.
Kris, however, was very careful about not mentioning what her role is at the time.
However, in an earlier PEP article, it was mentioned that Kris just might be playing a sultana in the film.
