Director Joel Lamangan will do daring scenes with GMA-7 actor Kevin Sagra for the Cinemalaya 2018 entry School Service.

Kevin, who will turn 23 years old this June, reached the Top 14 of StarStruck Season 6.

School Service is directed by Louie Ignacio who says his film is inspired by true incidents.

"Ito yung mga kuwento ng mga sindikato na gumamit ng school service para itago ang mga ninanakaw nila na bata," disclosed Direk Louie in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) held last June 3 at the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas.

"Yung mga nakikita natin sa balita na nambabasag ng salamin, mga nagra-rugby at mga nagbabasag ng salamin kapag hindi sila binigyan ng limos."

Ai-Ai delas Alas and Joel Lamangan run a syndicate that exploits children.

"Magkapatid si Ai-Ai at si Joel Lamangan. Magkapatid na head ng sindikato.

"Si Ai-Ai, demonyitang...nagmumura.

"Si Joel ang tigreng bading na nang-aalila ng mga bata.

"Gay si Direk Joel at ang boyfriend niya si Kevin Sagra."

As for Kevin's character, Direk Louie described him by saying, "Siya ang driver ng school service. Lumaki na siya sa ganung business kaya alam na niya."

What convinced Kevin to accept this provocative role?

"Gusto niyang maging aktor, e. Bihira ang Cinemalaya," explained Direk Louie.

When asked about the scenes between Direk Joel and Kevin, Direk Louie quipped, "X-rated!

Turning serious, he pointed out: "Kung ire-release ito, siguro R-13 kasi may [bl*wj*b].

"May love scene na, alam mo na, may hipuan."

He mentioned that the child stars depict what some street children do: they curse and they commit crimes. "Nangyari ang kuwento in 24 hours, from 10 p.m. to almost 11 p.m.

"Kailangan makita kung ano ang buhay nila sa kalye."

The filmmaker who also works as a painter described his film by saying, "May magic realism ito, may coloring book ako dito sa pelikula."

Direk Louie only found out that School Service would be part of Cinemalaya during the early part of 2018.

The original finalists were announced in August 2017. One of them was titled Pinay Beauty by Jay Abello. When the film was pulled out from Cinemalaya, School Service was chosen to take its place.

Direk Louie admitted, "Nahirapan nga ako. noong una nga gusto ko mag-back out kasi wala akong preparation.

"Binibiro-biro ko yung Cinemalaya na parang gusto kong mag-back out. Nasa Italy ako noon, e."

At that time, the director was in Salento, Italy to shoot his previous film titled Almost a Love Story.

Direk Louie also revealed that he wasn't the only one who struggled with the short deadline.

"Kami ni Perci [Intalan], gusto mag-back out.

"Of course, yung napiling other entries, one year na nila alam."

The screenplay of Pilot by Dexter Hemedez and Allan IbaƱez was originally chosen as a finalist in Cinemalaya 2018.

However, the filmmakers backed out and Direk Perci's entry titled Sa Pagitan ng Dito at Doon was chosen to complete the lineup.

Louie Ignacio, the director of School Service, admits he almost backed out of Cinemalaya 2018.
