Kiko Matos believes, "Mainstream movies have the same formula."

Kiko Matos accepts current status quo in Philippine movies, where romantic comedies still reign supreme in the box office. He is currently starring in the To Farm 2018 entries Mga Anak ng Kamote (left frame) and the sci-fi film Alimuom (right frame).

"Well, in a way, in a way," pag-amin niya.

Paliwanag niya, "I think these formulated movies can be… mainstream movies have the same formula, e. Like, kunwari pag may joke na nauso, itong mga mainstream movie pipick-apin yung joke, isasapelikula.

“Whereas, independent films naman, we talk about life, we talk about another person’s life, struggles, the ins and outs. Hindi siya perfect, hindi siya nanloloko.

“Whereas, pag romantic comedy, everything seems to be perfect.

"People, on the other hand naman will pay to see these kinds of movies to escape, ganyan. Pero at the end of the day, at least there is a selection.

"You can select, if you want to watch you know, a fairy tale. Or you want to watch something more realistic, and maybe you can learn a lesson, one or two.”

So hindi siya galit kung may pumipiling manood ng rom-com more than the indie films?

At least meron kang nagawa.”

“Well, in the Book of Proverbs nakasulat, ‘Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails’.

"So, whatever has happened in my life, you know, with the Baron issue, with all of these things, I never imagined or planned."

'Tapos natanggap, and aspiring to have another film, dumating yung Mumbai Love, and aspiring to have another, aspiring to have a career, tapos tuloy-tuloy.”
