Signal Rock is the Philippine entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 91st Academy Awards, more popularly known as the Oscars 2019.
Starring Christian Bables and Elora Espano, Signal Rock will attempt to become the first Filipino film to be nominated in this coveted category of the Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will hold the Oscars awarding ceremony on February 24, 2019.
Directed by Chito Roño, the family drama was chosen by the Film Academy of the Philippines.
The entire cast and crew of Signal Rock had to travel via land, sea, and air to get to Biri island in Samar where they shot for two weeks.
During the 1990s, the townspeople of Biri Island had to climb up a rock just to get a signal to call their loved ones.
This rock formation is frequented by Christian Bables’ character Intoy to call up his sister in Finland.
Intoy seeks their neighbors’ support in helping out his sister (voice-over by Judy Ann Santos -Agoncillo) who is being abused by her foreigner partner.
Elora Españo plays Rachel, Christian’s girlfriend in the movie who gets sent by her father to work as a cashier in an Olongapo bar.
