Indestructible as adamantium, X-Men Origins: Wolverine clawed in a staggering PhP 46,260,794 box-office nationwide in its 4-day opening weekend which opened April 30 in 244 theaters.
Action amplified, Wolverine's opening ups the earnings of the ‘X-Men' franchise to PhP 386,335,062. This includes the earnings of X-Men in August 2000, which grossed PhP 56.4 million, X2: X-Men United in April 2003 that grossed PhP 120.5 million and X-Men: The Last Stand that grossed PhP 163.1 million.
Based on actual Metro Manila figures from its local distributor Warner Bros. (F.E.), 20th Century Fox's Wolverine cut through as industry-wide's biggest opening day for 2009 so far at PhP9.24 million. It now stands as the biggest opening weekend for a foreign film at PhP 35.4 million surpassing Fast and the Furious 4's 4-day opening weekend of Php 22.2 million.
Droves of audiences flocked to see Wolverine on the big screen which resounded in huge box-office receipts, allowing Trinoma cinema to top the list as it pulled in a Php 3.5 million gross in its 4-day weekend release. Succeeding Trinoma's feat is SM Mall of Asia with Php 2.2 million followed by Greenbelt 3 with Php 2.03M as the third top cinema. Glorietta 4 cinema came in fourth with Php 2.009 million and Powerplant at fifth with Php 1.92 million.
Other cinemas included in the top 20 which drew in crowds of audiences are Alabang Town Center Php 1.88 million; Eastwood Php 1.83 million; SM Megamall Php 1.76 million; The Block/SM North Edsa Php 1.59 million; Shang Cineplex Php 1.41 million; Theatermall Ph p1.37 million; Gateway Cineplex Php 1.31 million; Ayala Cebu Php 1.08 million; Robinson's Ermita Php1 million; Filinvest Php 894,365; Robinson's Galleria Php 886,616; SM Cebu Php 813,278; SM Baguio Php 738,402; Market Market Php 706,776 and SM Clark Php631,554.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine unites Wolverine with several other legends of the X-Men universe, in an epic revolution that pits the mutants against powerful forces determined to eliminate them. Hugh Jackman reprises the role that made him a superstar, as the fierce fighting machine who possesses amazing healing powers, adamantium claws, and a primal fury known as berserker rage.
