(From left) Nonie Buencamino, Irma Adlawan, and TJ Tinidad form a love triangle in the Cinemalaya 2009 entry Ang Panggagahasa Kay Fe. It will be shown at the Cultural Center of the Philippines by July.

Isa si Irma Adlawan sa pinaka-mahuhusay at critically-acclaimed stage, film, and television actress ng local entertainment industry, kung kaya naman sa tagal na niya sa industriya, nakuha na niya ang respeto ng kanyang peers—sa mainstream man or independent scene.

Ngayong taon, sa Cinemalaya 2009, bidang-bida si Irma sa Ang Panggagahasa Kay Fe (international title: The Rapture of Fe), written and directed by Alvin Yapan.

Ayon sa website ng pelikula, "One can only surmise that Ang Panggagahasa Kay Fe will deal with multiple issues confronting Filipino society today: the plight of Overseas Filipino Workers, domestic abuse, family role-reversals, extreme poverty, how these issues are currently being made aware to the general public, and how this movie is an attempt to portray these long overlooked societal problems in a different light."

"I actually wrote the script for Irma Adlawan, and she was delighted upon knowing this," kuwento ni Direk Alvin. "Sabi niya, the only other person daw na nagsulat na ng script or magsusulat ng script para sa kanya ay ang husband niya [writer-director Dennis Marasigan]. Hahaha!

"Co-producing the film is the Women's Crisis Center (WCC). Our film focuses on the plight of the Filipino woman displaced by the global financial crisis. This is why it was important for us to get the support of WCC.

"The story is set in Pampanga, in the small and medium industry of rattan furniture manufacturers."

Alvin Yapan graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Legal Management and a masteral degree in Philippine Literature. He is a poet, a professor in Ateneo, and an award-winning fictionist.

But we had to cut it short kasi on our second day of shoot, nearing midnight, Irma Adlawan accidentally slipped and hurt herself!

Pero in the end, we were able to convince her to go to the hospital to [have an] X-ray.

"So, we cancelled the shoot, kahit pa she kept insisting that we continue. Pero talagang hindi maaatim ng sarili ko na papagpatuluyin pa ang shoot with her condition. So, we ended with two clusters of shooting days, almost three weeks apart.

HORRIYING SCENE. Hahaha! May nangyari pang mas horrifying!" mahabang chika ni Direk Alvin.

At ano nga ang mas "horrifying story" na 'yon during the shooting? There's this scene kasi where we harnessed three ladies to a tree, to look like they were hanged.

"Ayun, during my last take, one of them fainted and started convulsing and choking in mid-air! Grabe, everyone panicked!

"It's like we're living my script. Nakakatakot talaga! Hahaha!" natatawang kuwento ni Direk Alvin.

ON THE MALE CAST MEMBERS. How was it working with TJ Trinidad and Nonie Buencamino?

"Actually, it was a breeze. They are professionals, which made me nervous at the start, and really passionate about in further honing their craft. I really felt that they really consider what they are trying to do as their passion, not just their work.

"Halimbawa, si TJ, hindi siya nag-hesitate when I requested that we conduct an acting workshop session, which did not just turn out as an 'acting workshop,' dahil he can already calibrate his emotions depending on what the scene asks.

"The workshop turned out to be a character study on how we both want his character to go. I distinctly remember this session where we discussed how his character would walk, his character's posture, given the character's backstory. Very interesting.

"Nonie's style, on the other hand, was to field me a lot of questions. We kept discussing not just the how's of his character but the why's. How his character's scenes will blend with the entire film so he could adjust if need be.

"So, all in all, very interesting discussions both with TJ and Nonie," pagwawakas ni Direk Alvin.
