After conducting an advance screening at SM Pampanga, Marino (international title: Call of the Sea) sets sail and will have its port call (so to speak) in various maritime schools all over the Philippines via special screenings for students and seafarers organizations, too.
These screenings coincide with the celebration of September as "maritime month" for Asian Institute of Maritime Studies (AIMS) students and families, at SM Manila on September 10, and SM Bacoor on September 11.
Screenings for PAMMA ( Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy) maritime school will be on September 15-17.
Special screenings for the thousands of seafarers organization members are set on the last week of September, through the efforts of United Filipino Seafarers president, Engr. Nelson Ramirez of Tinig Marino radio program and newspaper.
The movie tells about the lives and sacrifices of seamen and their families, and pertinent issues like sea pirates, sunken ships, sexually-transmitted diseases and foreign employment.
Marino is topbilled by Allen Dizon and Ara Mina, with Emilio Garcia, Marco Alcaraz, Bangs Garcia, Victor Basa, Mike Tan, Rico Barrera, Jan Nieto and Krista Ranillo. Giving support are Lui Manansala, Benjie Felipe, Raymond Cabral and Nella Marie Dizon. Cinemalaya alumnus and Ateneo graduate Paul Sta. Ana directs from his own script.
Mrs. Carina D. Pagcu's CDP Events and Entertainment Production produces in cooperation with ATD Entertainment Productions. The movie was shot in various Philippine seas, Malolos and Paombong, Bulacan, as well as Bangkok, Thailand.
During these screenings for maritime schools and organizations, there will be a career orientation and seminar to give the laymen insights on the lives of seamen. The cast will be present in these screenings.
