Eugene Domingo was one of the special guests at the openingceremony of the 11th Cinemanila International Film Festival. The eventtook place at Market! Market! in Taguig last Friday, October 16.
Her previous film Kimmy Dora: Kambal sa Kiyeme reportedly grossed P80million during its six-week run. How does she feel about this feat?
"Siyempre, masaya. Nanood din ako ng LFS [last full show]. Last day saMegamall para, alam mo yun, full circle. Nag-thank you ako, kahit na konti nalang kami sa sinehan," narrates Eugene.
In Kimmy Dora, Eugene portrayed twins with distinct personalities. The filmwas screened in 90 theaters all over the country starting last September 2.
Is she expecting to become the next Box-Office Queen in thefuture? "Hindi ko alam, hindi ko talaga alam, basta happy si Piolo [Pascual,producer] happy na ako, 'saka si Direk Joyce [Bernal]. 'Saka sure ako maymakakagawa pa ang Spring Films ng susunod na projects."
BIYAHENG LUPA. Uge (Eugene's nickname) stars in one of theDigital Lokal entries of Cinemanila 2009. She plays one of the passengers ofthe road trip movie Biyaheng Lupa (international title: Soliloquy).This film is the directorial debut of Armando "Bing" Lao, a renownedscriptwriter who serves as creative consultant to the films of Jeffrey Jeturianand Dante Mendoza.
Biyaheng Lupa follows the story of a young deaf-mute who takes a bus ride fromManila to Bicol. Throughout the trip, moviegoers will be privy to the thoughts of the passengers as they embark on the bus ride. Cast members include Jaclyn Jose, Julio Diaz, Coco Martin, and Susan Africa.
The ensemble film will have its premiere tonight, October19, at Market! Market! in Taguig by 8 PM.
What role does Uge play in Biyaheng Lupa?
"Marami kami doon, iba-iba yung character namin. Ang napunta sa akin yungcharacter nung OFW na kailangan niya ihatid ang anak niya sa bahay nila, sohabang nangyayari yung biyahe, iniisip niya kung anong mangyayari sa anak niyakasi maiiwan niya. Naisip rin niya kung anong kalagayan ng bansa kaya kailanganniya umalis."
"Hindi naman ganun ka-drama, eksakto lang na para mapaisip ka sa katotohanan.Definitely, isa lang ako dito, hindi ako kambal," she quipped.
How long did it take for them to shoot the movie?
"Super, nagka jet-lag ako, ha! Paulit-ulit na papunta, pabalik 'saka totoongpumunta kami ng Bicol," recalls Uge. "Ang tagal. Simula kami ng 5 am hangganggabi. Dire-diretso, kung saan ang puwesto mo, dun ka na lang, hindi ka natatayo."
She even narrates a funny anecdote while shooting the movie. She was alreadysleeping in the bus when the crew woke her up and told her that she needed toact like she was sleepy. "Bakit ginising pa ako?!" she exclaimed.
Bing Lao served as the creative consultant of Foster Child, starringEugene and Cherry Pie Picache. In fact, Eugene refers to Bing as a "livinglegend" when it comes to scriptwriting.
WORKING GIRLS 2010. What is keeping Uge busynowadays? "I'm waiting for the schedule of Working Girls sa Viva Films."
The comedienne says that she is unsure if she will reprise the role of GinaPareño or if they will create a new character. Ishmael Bernal's film released in the '80s tackled the situation of girls working in different fields.
The remake will have the title Working Girls 2010 and will be released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the film.
Did she watch the original film?
"Oo naman," says Eugene. "Isa siyang classic, di ba? Talaga namang maraming working girlsngayon. 'Saka excited ako to work with Joey Reyes."In Working Girls 2010, Uge will be reunited with Ruffa Gutierrez afterworking together in the comedy film My Monster Mom (2008).
