Comedienne Pokwang’s first horror film will include a kissing scene with hunky actor-model Zanjoe Marudo.
"Doon ko lang nakitang nag-blush si Pokwang!" laughed box-office director Cathy Garcia Molina, who directed the "Puso" episode of Star Cinema’s upcoming scare flick titled Cinco.
"Meron kaming eksena dito na bubura sa lahat ng mga kissing scene na nangyari sa industriya ng pelikula sa Pilipinas!" exclaimed Pokwang during a pocket press conference held last June 29 at Proud Mary Café Diner on Tomas Morato, Quezon City.
Zanjoe and Pokwang have worked together in the now defunct sitcom Aalog-Alog (2006) and continue to do so in the weekend gag show Banana Split. Interestingly, Zanjoe is also the ex-boyfriend of Pokwang’s good friend and Wowowee co-regular Mariel Rodriguez.
Pokwang continued, "’Yong totoo nailang ako. E, Diyos ko puro comedy ang ginagawa namin, puro kalokohan tapos biglang seryoso at may kiyemeng ganun [kissing scene]... Hinilamusan niya ko ng dila niya! Si Zanjoe kasi naman barkada kami so siyempre nung una nailang ako pero sabi ko sige na nga kunan na natin ’to! Huwag kang mamimihasa ha?"
TWISTED ROMANCE. The kissing scene is essential to the story as Pokwang will portray a love struck lady who will do everything to snatch the heart of Zanjoe’s character.
"Kasi sobrang patay na patay ako sa kanya dito kaya ginayuma ko siya sa ngalan ng pag-ibig para mapasa-akin lang siya [Zanjoe]," explained Pokwang.
Direk Cathy revealed that the kissing scene was carried out in a single take: "Dire-diretso po’yon. Sinadya ko pong one take kasi ’pag may cut baka sabihan ng tao dinaya. Tsaka binulungan ko po talaga si Zanjoe sabi ko ’Pag di ninyo ginawa ni Pokwang ’to uulit-ulitin ko rin lang ’to so gawin ninyo na ng isang matino’ Ayon, binigay ni Zanjoe!"
The kissing scene of course is just part of the episode’s overall dynamics of mixing romance with a twist along with horror.
"Puso" is the final episode among the five so there is obviously a pressure on the part of the director and actors to effectively heighten the suspense and shock value as the film reaches the finish line.
Cinco--which will be shown nationwide on July 14--is considered as a breakthrough in the Philippine horror genre in terms of plot construction and narration. All of the episodes in the movie are grippingly connected together by a single element, which will be revealed in the end.
