Anne Curtis feels blessed to be given the chance to work with Claudine Barretto in the upcoming movie In Your Eyes, which will open in cinemas this August.
Produced by Viva Films and GMA Films, In Your Eyes features a love triangle of sisters who fall in love with the same man. During the press conference held last Saturday, July 3, at Annabel’s restaurant in Quezon City, Anne revealed how she felt when she got the chance to act opposite her idol.
"For me, I was very vocal na pag tinatanong ako kung sinong gusto kong maka-trabaho at lagi kong sinasabi si Ate Claudine. I waited so long and finally, Viva and, of course, GMA gave me the chance to work with her. Sobra akong kinakabahan and I’ve seen practically all of her movies. Sobra ko siyang ini-idolo. It was so nerve-wracking working with her pero napaka supportive niya at hahayaan ka niyang mag-emote ka muna. Kahit alam mong prepared na siya, she’ll give way to you and minsan, may dinadagdag siyang lines for me. It was really a pleasure working with her. I learned a lot."
She later adds: "Hindi masyadong malaking adjustment for me but it’s more of nervousness. If you’ve seen all of Ate Clau’s films, you really have to put your best foot forward sa lahat ng scenes."
For her part, Claudine says of her co-star: "Para sa akin, super fun [working with her]. Kasi ever since, dream ko na talaga na magkaroon ng little sister so kami ni Anne, magka tinginan lang kami sa eksena, pag-hinug ko lang siya na ganun, naiiyak na rin kami. Tawagan lang kami lagi."
Claudine then differentiated In Your Eyes from the romantic dramas that she did in the past. "I make it a point na ibahin ang mga roles na pino-portray ko para hindi siya pare-pareho. Yung mga situations, hindi naman exactly pareho ang plot. It really happens in real life at pinag-usapan namin na ang Dubai, John Lloyd [Cruz] at Aga [Muhlach], magkapatid at ang Kailangan Kita, tungkol sa magkapatid rin [in this movie, Aga Muhlach portrayed the fiancé of Claudine’s character but he fell in love with Clau while they were preparing for the wedding].
"Yung mga ganitong plots, hindi maiiwasan lalo na sa U.S. kasi it really happens. Iniba na lang namin yung atake ng characters. Iba rin si Direk Mac [Alejandre] pagdating sa visuals and technical aspect ng pelikula. Dun siya mag-iiba sa mga ibang pelikula na nagawa ko na."
Direk Mac pointed out that their dramatic movie aims to tackle one of the most complicated emotions of human beings: falling in love.
"Before we started the film, we had a definite movie in our mind and lahat kami nag-commit na pagdating namin sa set, papasok kami sa mundo ng In Your Eyes. Ang mundong ito ay hindi lang napakasaya kung hindi napakasakit. Lahat kami naniniwala na although love may be the best emotion given to man, the pain of love is worth the joy it brings."
In Your Eyes was shot partly in Los Angeles, California. It also stars Joel Torre, Maricar de Mesa, Leandro Muñoz and CJ Javarata.
DARING MOVES. One of the most-talked scenes in the movie is the part wherein Anne, who is wearing short shorts, suddenly sits on the lap of Richard Gutierrez while he is driving a vehicle.
"Naloka ako!" exclaimed Anne. "Kasi first time ko talaga gumawa ng scene na ganun. Tinanong ko ang sarili ko, ’Am I ready for this?’ Yun ang pinaka most daring scene that I’ve done. Pinaka na nga, most pa!"
She later adds: "In a way, I was excited. I believe as an actress, you should really step out of your comfort zone and if you really want to mature, you have to try something new. I trust naman Direk Mac...As awkward as I was, once you get into the character, okay na. Pero sobrang tense ako, pinagpapawisan at naloka talaga ako!"
Richard also recalled how it was like to shoot that sexy scene. "Medyo nahirapan rin ako dun, kinabahan ako. Masikip yung upuan sa steering wheel...medyo mahirap. Pero sabi nga ni Direk, once we get into our characters...that scene was very vital to our characters. Dun mare-reveal ang character ni Anne na free-spirited. It was a very important scene and our goal at that time was to nail that scene. Bahala na kung masikip o ano..."
ON THEIR LOVE SCENES. Both Anne and Claudine have love scenes in this movie with their leading man. Anne already shot her love scene with Richard while Claudine has yet to do hers.
"Hindi siya yung aakalain n’yong love scene," says Anne. "Ang ganda kasi ni Direk Mac [kasi nag-iinstruct siya], ’Ganito kayo ha tapos ganito kayo.’ Quick lang namin na-shoot kasi puro tight shots si Direk then yung iba, wide na."
Why did she agreed to do a love scene with Richard but her love scene with Sam Milby in Babe I Love You did not materialize? "Si Direk Mae [Cruz of Babe I Love You] na ang nagsabi na it’s not needed na. Siya nag-decide na for this movie, hindi na needed but if we have a more mature movie, baka dun pa."
For her part, Claudine admitted that she feels more nervous this time compared to other love scenes she has shot in the past.
"Mas ninenerbiyos ako kasi nakikita ko na ninenerbiyos si Chard at this is after my movies in Seiko at Star Cinema. Iba yung pag-shoot dito for GMA and Viva Films. Sa amin, dati, ’pag sinabing halikan, halikan talaga yun. ’Pag sinabing love scene, love scene talaga yun. [Naninimbang] ako kung paano ba dito, kinakausap ko si Direk kung ano bang peg namin dito at ninenerbiyos si Chard so nahahawa na ’ko. So, pinanood namin yung mga dati kong love scenes..."
