Box-office gross no longer key factor in choosing Best Picture for 36th MMFF

To determine the Best Picture for the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival, the following criteria will be used: artistry, creativity and technical excellence, innovativeness, thematic value and global appeal, 70 percent; and Filipino cultural and/or historical value, 30 percent. Some of the entries this year are Super Inday and the Golden Bibe (top frame) and Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote (bottom frame).

"In reponse to the clamor from the movie industry the Executive Committee removed the criteria for commercial viability. The criteria will henceforth be based on artistry, creativity, innovativeness, global appeal and technical excellence from 50% to 70%. And cultural and historical value, which will be increased from 25% to 30%," sabi ni Chairman Tolentino sa kanyang speech na pinalakpakan naman ng mga artistang naroon.

INDEPENDENT FILMS BECOME PART OF MMFF.

"As an innovation in the film festival, we, in the MMFF Executive Committee decided to launch a program designed to support independent filmmakers whose films are slowly being felt both here and abroad. We will sponsor the premiere showing in Metro Manila of five independent films as a prelude the 2010 MMFF," pahayag ni Chairman Tolentino.
