SM Cinema launches film literacy program

Senior Vice-President of SM Cinema, Edgar Tejerero, said that 49 schools and universities have agreed to take part in their film literacy program. They will feature classic films such as Sister Stella L and Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?

"The film literacy program goes beyond entertainment," says Paolo Arugay of SM Cinema during the launch of SM’s film literacy program held recently at SM North Edsa The Block.

During his presentation, he mentioned that the program will include films by Nick Deocampo and they might include those done by National Artist for Film Eddie Romero.

Nick, director of the Center for New Cinema, will share his experiences through this program.

Senior Vice-President of SM Cinema, Edgar Tejerero, explained their advocacy. "May 100 films kaming pinili that match subject matters in schools. Nagkaroon kami ng consultation sa mga schools and universities last February."

He revealed that the officials of schools and universities are excited to use film as a medium of instruction.

Mr. Tejerero also pointed out: "Some of the films include classic Pinoy films such as Sister Stella L and Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon?

"A total of 49 schools and universities will tie up with SM for the film literacy program, including Ateneo, San Beda College, Philippine Women’s University and the University of Asia and the Pacific.

NEW SM BRANCHES. Aside from launching the film literacy program, SM also announced plans to add more screens apart from the 226 cinemas operating in 39 branches nationwide.

This year, new branches will be opened in Masinag, Antipolo; San Fernando, Pampanga; and Consolacion, Cebu. In addition, they have plans of putting up two more IMAX Theaters: one in SM Southmall and one in SM Clark. The IMAX theaters are scheduled to open by July 2011.

Another innovation to be introduced by SM is the installation of new seats, particularly Lazy Boy seats. Starting August this year, moviegoers can enjoy these seats without any price increase. The Lazy Boy seats will be initially available in SM Mall of Asia, SM Marikina, SM Southmall and SM Sta. Mesa.
