Star Cinema’s official entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival is a romantic comedy that banks on the onscreen chemistry of real-life sweethearts Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo.
While fans might get thrilled by seeing the two lovebirds go through the chaotic preparations of a wedding, Judy Ann and Ryan both hope that they don’t share the troubles encountered by their characters, Angie (Judy Ann) and Jed (Ryan), in the movie Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo.
"Ayokong pagdaanan yung pinagdaanan ng couple na ito. Medyo masyadong exciting yung kanilang pinagdaanan," confides Ryan during the November 13 press conference of the Metro Manila Film Fest, held in the VIP Room of Aliw Theater. "But there are some parts, of course, na [na-realize namin] ‘Uy, nangyari na sa atin ’to.’"
Asked to elaborate on similarities between them and the characters they play, Ryan picks a moment: "Yung time when they just picked on each other. Kasi, when you’ve been together for a long time, there’s a comfort level eh. These characters are very comfortable with each other and they’re very comfortable in their own skin. In that regard, pareho kami."
For her part, Juday (Judy Ann’s nickname) believes that she is similar to her character because of her "pagiging madaldal at times at yung pagiging independent niyang tao."
When talk turns to their own love life, Juday and Ryan are optimistic about sharing a future together. Juday says, "I’m really praying na sana dire-diretso na to kasi I’m not getting any younger, and at the same time ang hirap humanap ng lalaking kikilalanin mo na naman, kikilatisin ng magulang mo, yung ganun."
Ryan has a similar view. "Ako, I consider myself very lucky. Me and Juday have parents that realize how happy we are, and they never meddled in our relationship."
He reveals: "If anything, ang nangyayari nga ata, mas mahal siya ng parents ko eh. Tapos, siya rin nagtatampo rin sa mommy niya eh kasi minsan ako yung dinedepensahan eh."
"We have a good vibe going with both sets of parents," concludes Ryan.
Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo is Star Cinema’s official entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. Joining Judy Ann and Ryan are Gloria Diaz, Gina Pareño, and Ariel Ureta.
