Melai Cantiveros has indeed come a long way from being the runaway winner of reality show, Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up. Her flair for comedy and acting versatility has opened doors for Melai and allowed her to topbill the romantic comedy film The Adventures of Pureza: Queen of the Riles.
Directed by Soxy Topacio, this co-production of Star Cinema and Cine Screen also stars Jason Francisco (Melai’s reel and real boyfriend), Martin del Rosario, Bianca Manalo, Bekimon, Nico Antonio, Joem Bascon and Ms. Gina Pareño.
Comedienne-actress Melai plays the role of a bubbly, kind-hearted and hardworking lass named Pura who lives a destitute life with her brother, Ulam (played by Martin). They literally live along the riles (railways). The young girl works hard and dreams of giving a better life to her brother.
In the movie, viewers will be amazed as Pura jumps from job to another: from being a balut vendor, tahong vendor, an Ati-Atihan performer, and a nun, among others.
Meanwhile, Jason is cast as Pura’s ever dependable friend Ruben who is always by her side.
Pura’s fate changes when a Brazilian model goes missing. The situation serendipitously opened doors for Pura since she pretends to be a Cuban model while looking for the missing model.
Like a butterfly that reached full metamorphosis, Melai is transformed from being poor Pura to glamorous Brazilian model Pureza Mayriles, allowing her to taste the "good" life of fame and fortune.
However, Pura also becomes involved in a complicated situation that will put her and her loved ones in grave danger.
How will Pura surpass these obstacles? Find out when The Adventures of Pureza: Queen of the Riles opens on July 13, 2011 in theaters nationwide.
