Sa November 30 na ipapalabas ang suspense-thriller na The Road ng GMA Films na dinirek ng international director na si Yam Laranas. Si Direk Yam din ang nagdirek ng Sigaw, na ginawan ng Hollywood version titled The Echo two years ago.
Ngunit bago nito, masuwerte ang writer na ito na mapanood ang pelikula na binigyan ng R-13 ng Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.
Bukod sa mahuhusay na acting ng buong cast, napakaganda ng musical scoring at paglalapat ng sound kaya konting sound lamang dahil nasa Dolby 5.1 ito, magugulat at mapapatili ka na. Nakuha ni direk Yam ang services ni Johan Sodergvist, ang Swedish musical scorer ng horror movie na Let The Right One In.
"Gustung-gusto ko ang said movie kaya gusto kong siya ang mag-score ng The Road," ani Direk Yam. "Nag-try akong i-email siya hoping na mapagbigyan niya ang request. Ang tuwa ko nang in less that one week, sumagot siya sa akin. Nag-usap kami for four hours sa Skype at nagkasundo kaming ipapadala ko sa kanya, through a website na ginawa niya, ang mga parts ng movie na ii-score niya. Doon ko rin ina-upload iyong natapos na niya, without the danger na makuha ito ng iba.
"With his talent fee, nakita ko ang Pinoy sensibility niya dahil nang tanungin ko kung magkano ang talent fee na sisingilin niya, bahala na raw ako, huwag daw namin pag-usapan ang talent fee niya. Noong ginawa namin ang The Echo, binayaran namin ng $20,000 (approximately P840,000) iyong musical scorer. GMA Films pay more than that amount kay Johan."
Gusto raw sanang pumunta rito ni Johan kaya lamang may ginagawa rin itong isang Spanish film at hindi niya pwedeng iwanan. Naipadala na ni direk Yam ang buong movie complete with sound and musical scoring at happy raw si Johan nang mapanood ang buong pelikula.
Ang ginamit na "haunted road" para sa pelikula ay matatagpuan sa Teresa, Rizal.
Sa November 25, may premiere night ang movie at sa November 30 ang regular showing nito in more than 100 cinemas nationwide.
Narito ang descriptions ng mga characters na bumubuo sa pelikula na The Road:
LUIS (TJ TRINIDAD) - a provincial cop tasked to investigate the case of three teenagers, two of which died in a desolate road, one is still missing.
ALLAN (GERALD MADRID) - Luis’ assistant police investigator who helps him bring resolution to a recent case they are investigating about a missing teenager.
EDWIN (JOHN REGALA) - Chief of Police who somehow does not approve of the way Luis conducts his police business.
SUSAN (JACLYN JOSE) - mother of two missing daughter a decade ago who presently asks Luis for his help.
"The 1st Story"
ELLA (BARBIE FORTEZA) - a sweet 15-year old teenager who sneaks out one night with her best friend to learn how to drive, never expecting for their joyride to turn ghastly as they end up trapped in a desolate road
JANINE (LEXI FERNANDEZ) - Ella’s best friend who pressures her to sneak with her mother’s car so they can both learn how to drive. Her relationships with both her best friend and boyfriend are tested as horrifying things unfold before her eyes.
BRIAN (DERRICK MONASTERIO) - Janine’s gregarious boyfriend who has a love and hate relationships with both Janine and Ella. It was his idea to sneak out using Janine’s family’s car, bragging he will teach the two girls how to drive, never knowing the horrors that await them.
ANGELO (LLOYD SAMARTINO) - Ella’s father whom she calls for help amidst the haunting on the road where the teenagers were trapped.
"The 2nd Story"
LARA (RHIAN RAMOS) - a kind and loving sister who is abducted one day in the same road. Lara never saw her abductor and torturer and she plans to escape her being in captive before she becomes a casualty.
JOY (LOUISE DELOS REYES) - Lara’s younger sister, a very impressionable girl who idolizes Lara very much. Abducted and imprisoned in another cell as with Lara, she hopes to escape and reunite with her family.
ABET (ALDEN RICHARDS) - a 17-year old teenager with a mysterious past
ABET (RENZ VALERIO) - a homeschooled 10-year old boy who is not allowed by his mother to get out of the house all his life. When his father tells him one day that her mother left them, he was surprised to see the woman still in the house, watching his every move, haunting him till the very end.
CARMELA (CARMINA VILLARROEL) - an imposing woman, a domineering wife and mother who isolates her son from the rest of the world. She becomes such a strong figure in her own household that Abet has to deal with her psychological state.
ALBERTO (MARVIN AGUSTIN) - a pastor, Abet’s doting father and a submissive husband emotionally and verbally battered by his wife. When his son claims the woman never left them, Alberto is forced to examine whether his son is being haunted or is just imagining things.
MARTHA (YNNA ASISTIO) - a 16-year old neighbor who tries to befriend the boy Abet much to the disapproval of Carmela.
