Shot documentary style, this indie film follows the Manlangqui family as they stick to their daily routine, even as they say goodbye to their foster child, John-John, whom they have raised for the past three years. Director Brillante shows the situation of most foster parents-for-hire in a Third World country such as the Philippines.

Earlier this year, Foster Child was screened in the Directors' Fortnight of Cannes Film Festival, making it the fourth Filipino film to be screened in this prestigious film fest. It is also Brillante's fourth feature film, following Masahista (2005), Kaleldo (2006), and Manoro (2006).
