Robinsons Galleria Movieworld will be playing host to the exclusive theatrical run of Sa Ilalim ng Cogon (2005), a mystery horror thriller starring Yul Servo and Julia Clarete. Starting December 13, moviegoers can watch the indie film that was cited as Best Feature Film in the Rojo Sangre Buenos Aires Film Festival last year.
Originally set to be screened at IndieSine (Cinema 8), the venue of the screening of Sa Ilalim ng Cogon (Beneath the Cogon) has been moved to Cinema 3.
This movie, directed by Rico Maria Ilarde, is about a former soldier named Sam (Yul) searching for his missing ex-wife. Seeking refuge, he finds himself hiding inside a creepy, run-down mansion standing amidst a sea of tall cogon grass. He meets the young, sexy Katia (Julia) and begins a passionate and torrid affair with this mysterious and enigmatic girl. In the process, he gets involved in a violent heist that ends in a deadly double-cross.
Direk Rico tells PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) about his experience with Yul and Julia: "I think they're a study of contrasts. Yul is a very serene person—wherein you have to push him to get his energy level up—[while] Julia is the opposite. Si Julia parang human dynamo so sometimes she has to bring her energy down. Sometimes, talaga she's a very energetic person."
In an interview with PEP earlier today (December 12), the director of Cogon mentions that his movie has been invited to six film festivals since it came out in 2005. "We have been invited to Uruguay for the Montevideo Fantastic Film Festival. It will be shown [in Uruguay] in March 2007," says Rico.
Sa Ilalim ng Cogon also stars Dido dela Paz, Raul Morit, Eugie Rodriguez, and Ramon Bautista—with the special participation of Joel Torre. This indie movie is being released by the distribution arm of the newly-created Independent Filmmakers Cooperative.
