The 10-time Grammy award-winning musician Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds visited Manila for a one-night concert dubbed as The Playlist Tour last night, October 13, at the Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City.
A day before his concert, the perfomer/songwriter/producer met the press at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
The songwriter, who has written more than a hundred compositions for popular artists, revealed that he listens to different music genres, most of them instrumental and classical pieces.
He noted that his collection contains a variety of music. Babyface said, "It's a wide range from rock stuff to slow, to ballad, to Mozart, everything, I listen to everything. So when you're with me you'll be listening to a whole lot of different music."
AUTOGRAPH SIGNING. After the presscon, the music icon went to The Lounge Podium, where more than a hundred of his fans waited for him. Babyface signed their CD copies of Playlist during the rare autograph signing session.
PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) spotted singer Karylle who waited patiently for her turn to have her two CDs be signed by Babyface. Karylle admitted that she is a big fan of the international artist.
Full of excitement, Karylle said, "Parang ang dami mong gustong sabihin pero kapag kaharap mo na parang, ‘Wow!' ganun na lang, ' di ba? Siyempre I'm a very very big fan of Babyface. I can't believe I finally met him. Tumakas lang ako sa rehearsal, mayroon pa akong recording. Sabi ko, ‘Please let me go.'
"At saka noong talagang nakita ko siya parang wala akong masabi. Ang dami kong na-practice sa ulo ko pero wala naman akong nasabi."
PEP also asked if she is going to watch the concert tonight, but Karylle said, "Di ko pa nga alam kasi mayroon akong something tomorrow so sabi ko at least ma-meet ko man lang siya kasi baka hindi ako makapanood because of work."
PLAYLIST CONCERT. In his concert tonight, Babyface will perform the songs that are included in his latest album under MCA Music, Playlist. Some of these songs are cover songs from noted artists like "Fire and Rain" and "Shower the People" by James Taylor, "Wonderful Tonight" (Eric Clapton), "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (Bob Dylan), "Time in a Bottle" (Jim Croce) and "Diary" by Bread.
If there is one thing that this the 49-year-old musician wants his Filipino viewers to remember after his concert, Babyface said, "I just hope that they had a great time and then the music takes everybody to some memories. I think that's what we really are as a musician, we fill memories, we create them."
