Fifteen-year-old American pop rock singer Greyson Chance, Apl de Ap, Ely Buendia and other OPM artists were among those who graced the launch of Smart Music at the Hyve Super Club, Taguig City last July 8.

During the event, Greyson performed his newest single, "Football," for his Pinoy fans. The Internet sensation said that he will never tire of visiting Manila for the "nice and smiling people."

OPM (Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit) president Ogie Alcasid expessed his support for the newest music portal launched by Smart Communications, Inc. and MCA Music Inc.

He said, “This is great, to be honest. We’ve been talking with Smart Music for a couple of weeks already.

“I think it’s great. With the power of Smart doing this for the online music industry, malaking bagay ‘yon.

“It simplifies things if you have access to the consumers, as far as music is concerned.

“I am appreciative of the fact that they realize the importance of OPM.

Smart Communications and MCA Music joined their resources to promote the legal purchase of digital music by creating a music portal accessible to Filipinos.

Smart Music is an online portal that offers music downloads for as low as P15 per track—the lowest peso rate in the digital music market today. New releases will be sold at P20 each track—roughly half the comparable rates of other online music stores. Through this site, they hope to encourage more Filipinos to purchase legitimate music online.

“We will rapidly grow our multimedia content offerings in the next few months. What better way to jumpstart this effort than by offering what’s close to the hearts of the Filipinos: music,” says Charles Lim, EVP and head of wireless consumer business for Smart.


MCA Music president Ricky Ilacad had this to say about the new music portal: “With the number of subscribers of Smart has across the country, we’re virtually rolling out millions of retail outlets right in the hands of our consumers.”

MCA Music boasts of a music catalog that spans multiple genres across several areas. The record company carries in its labels some of the world’s most popular music superstars such as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, U2, Black Eyed Peas, Eminem and more.
