Banda ni Kleggy is composed of (L-R) Bob Cañamo (bass), Berns Cuevas (bass), Kleggy (vocalist), Rye Sarmiento (guitars), Lem Belaro (synth, handsonic), and Otep Concepcion (drums). The band describes their music as "jolly pop."

If you are an avid listener of OPM Music, you’ve probably heard of Banda ni Kleggy and their latest hit song, “Discolamon.”

The disco-inspired music video shows Kleggy as the overconfident “hari ng dance floor” trying to get Kim Chiu’s attention.

The five-man band is composed of frontman Kleggy (Adalbert Lester C. Abaya in real life) and other band members who are already noted names in the local music scene.

Rye Sarmiento (guitars) and Bob Cañamo (bass) are from 6Cyclemind; Lem Belaro (synth, handsonic) is from Callalily; while Berns Cuevas (bass) and Otep Concepcion (drums) are renowned sessionistas.

After two years of entertaining audiences with their animated live performances, the band is now releasing its first album titled Only in the Philippines.

The album features nine original tracks: “Eric Clapsong,” “Experto,” “Discolamon,” “Bawal sa Gamot,” “Umay,” Teach Me How to Disco,” “Mahal Kita Pramis,” “Walang Wala,” and “Darating.”

A remix of “Discolamon” is included as a bonus track.

On working with the Kapamilya actress, Kleggy says, “Si Kim Chiu kasi…ganda!

KEAN CIPRIANO. Philpop entry “Space” is a collaboration between Banda ni Kleggy and Callalily lead vocalist, Kean Cipriano.

The band members explain that Kean and Kleggy are actually best friends, which is why making the music video seemed like playtime instead of work.

Banda ni Kleggy’s main man further relates how big an influence Kean is to his music career.

Kleggy teased.

"JOLLY POP" MUSIC. The jocular Kleggy playfully describes the band’s genre of music as “jolly pop.”

‘Yeeees!’

“Kumbaga, pag bumili ka ng album namin, yung same na saya na bumili ka sa Jollibee is ganun din.”

The lead singer likes to take on different characters in every song and he clarifies that being king of the dance floor in “Discolamon” is just that—a character.

The band’s aim, according to them, is to spread happiness through music and this is how they want their listeners to remember them.

“So parang ako, parang, grabe, yun yung nakakaalis ng pagod, e.”

Guitarist Rye adds, “Yun yung dahilan kung bakit yung title nung album, Only in the Philippines.

“So yun, yung buong album, parang ganun, magaan. Pag pinakinggan niyo yung kanta kahit gano ka pa kaproblemado, mapapasaya ka talaga.

“Gina-guarantee namin yun kaya sana mapakinggan niyo yun at mabili niyo yung album.”
