Early this year, the Korean song “Gwiyomi” went viral and made its way to the Philippines. K-Pop fans and even local celebrities (including Heart Evangelista and Alodia Gosiengfiao) uploaded their own versions of the dance craze.
Earlier today, September 5, Hari—the K-Pop singer behind "Gwiyomi"—met with the Philippine media.
During her press conference held at Glorietta 5 in Makati City, Hari shared that this marks her first time to visit the Philippines. Gino Quillamor hosted the press conference and asked Hari to name Filipino dishes that she has tried upon coming here to the Philippines. The K-Pop singer said that she hasn’t tried any Filipino food as of that moment and was only able to eat peanuts and drink apple juice.
The 23-year-old singer said that she is overwhelmed by the success and recognition that the song has brought her. Admittedly, Hari still feels like everything is a dream. She also said that she did not expect to be coming here to the Philippines to meet her Filipino fans.
When asked for the reason why the song became famous, Hari described it as “cute” and “very catchy,” which is why everyone could relate to it. Hari also added that it appeals to all audiences and at the same time, the dance is very easy to follow so it became viral.
Hari also related the "Gwiyomi Song” to her bubbly personality. The K-Pop singer said that she is always optimistic and has a pleasant disposition in life, which is pretty much like the cheerful song.
When asked which K-Pop idol she would like to collaborate with, Hari answered Bigbang’s G-Dragon who is currently promoting his solo album Coup D’Etat.
When it comes to Filipino artists, Hari revealed that she would like to collaborate with ABS-CBN star Sam Concepcion, whom she heard was a great singer and dancer. Sam performed his latest single “No Limitations” before the program started. Sam also performed the "Gwiyomi Song" with Hari earlier today.
Towards the end of the press conference, Hari thanked her Filipino fans and said “Mahal ko kayo!” while doing the Sandara Park hand wave. The K-Pop singer also asked her fans to keep supporting her because she will have another song to be released soon.
Hari will perform live on September 6 (6:30 p.m.) at the Glorietta Activity Center, Palm Drive; September 7 (6:30 p.m.) at the Marquee Mall Activity Center; and September 8 (7:00 p.m.) at the Ayala Center Cebu Terraces. Aside from her malls shows, Hari will also have a meet-and-greet session at Trinoma Mall Cinema Lobby on September 7 at 1 p.m.
