Pilipinas Got Talent’s first winner Jovit Baldivino, Pinoy Dream Academy Season Two’s Second Star Dreamer Bugoy Drilon, The Voice Philippines runner-up Morissette Amon, and X-Factor season one grand champion KZ Tandingan will go up against each other as song interpreters in Himig Handog 2014.
Aside from the previously mentioned reality show contestants, the other interpreters are Daniel Padilla, Jessa Zaradoza, Jed Madela, Angeline Quinto, Juris, Janella Salvador, Marion Aunor, Jugs and Teddy, Ebe Dancel and Abra, Michael Pangilinan, and Hazel Faith Dela Cruz.
Himig Handog is a multimedia songwriting and music video competition that will hold its grand finals on September 28 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Star Magic’s Mr. Johnny Manahan explains that the competition is not only between the 15 songwriters and 15 schools who produced the music videos, but there will also be an “online choice for favorite interpreter” for the singers.
When asked if they feel any pressure about joining yet again another contest, Bugoy quickly answers, “Of course, meron pa rin, hindi po yun mawawala [yung pressure,] kasi ang gagaling nila, e. Given na po yan.”
Bugoy will be singing "Umiiyak Ang Puso" by Rolando Azar on the finals night.
As for the “napaka-shy” offstage and “napaka-intense” onstage Jovit Baldivino, “Siyempre andun pa rin yung nerbiyos, hanggang ngayon sa tuwing humaharap ako sa tao, nininerbiyos pa rin ako.
“Pero bibigay ko na lang yung best ko, kasi sobrang thankful din po ako kasi pinagkatiwalaan po ako for the second time,” Jovit says.
Jovit sang “Sana'y Magbalik” composed by Arman Alferez for last year’s Himig Handog. He interprets the song "Dito” composed by Raizo Chabeldin.
This year marks KZ Tandingan’s second time to join Himig Handog. In 2013, she performed “Scared to Death” by Domingo Rosco Jr. This 2014, she interprets Edwian Marollano's entry titled “Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako.”
KZ disclosed the problems she encountered with the song, “Yun nga po yung unang una kong naging problema, e [how to relate to the song,] kasi sabi ni Sir Roxy, i-remember mo yung time na 15-years-old ka, na namimili ka, yung crush mo ba o yung may crush sa 'yo.
“Sabi ko, 'Sir Roxy, nung 15 years old ako yung problema ko lang po sa pagpili ay pagkain o tulog,'” the 20-year-old singer says with a laugh.
In the end, KZ admits that the person she will choose is the one she loves.
The Voice of the Philippines runner-up Morissette Amon narrates her overall experience in joining Himig Handog.
“For me, pressure pa rin po. Kasi yung The Voice is last year lang, tapos after nun sumabak ulit ako sa isang contest na naman, although in another field but still it’s a competition, which is Himig Handog.
Kiko Salazar is also said to be a Mariah Carey fan. For this reason, he is very pleased to have Morissette’s "whistle voice" in interpreting his composition “Akin Ka Na Lang.”
The Himig Handog P-Pop Love Song Edition finals night will take place on September 28 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
