Regine Velasquez on why she got emotional over her award: "The reason why I got a little emotional because you know when you accept mga ganitong award, you kind of go back to where you started." Regine then started crying again. And naalala ko yung tatay ko. Kaya nga di ako makakanta ng matino, e, kasi I was trying not to cry."

Regine Velasquez cried when she was honored at the MOR Pinoy Music Awards 2019 held at the Araneta Coliseum last July 16.

Regine received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to the Philippine music industry.

The last part of the event served as a tribute to Asia's Songbird as ABS-CBN singers Jona, Klarisse de Guzman, Katrina Velarde, Bugoy Drilon, Daryl Ong, and Michael Pangilinan performed some of her hits.

When it was Regine's turn to sing her hit "Dadalhin," the singer suddenly broke into tears and she paused until she regained her composure.

MOR then presented her with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Regine said that she is dedicating her award to her husband, Ogie Alcasid.

In an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other reporters backstage at the Araneta Coliseum, Regine said that she was surprised by her emotional outburst on stage.

"Oo nga, hindi ko nga ine-expect kasi the kids were singing my songs and I was trying not to cry. Ang pangit tuloy ng kanta ko! Pero okay lang.

"I got a little emotional. It's not everyday that you get to be awarded lifetime achievement and kanina, I was asking nga bakit ako may lifetime achievement.

"But thank you very much for the honor. Like I said, it's not everyday that you get this kind of award."

Asia's Songbird said there was another reason why she suddenly cried when she was given tribute this 2019.

She told PEP.ph and other reporters, "Nabigyan na rin naman ako noong pumasok ako sa ASAP, pero kasi ito may award, e. It's a nice feeling.

"The reason why I got a little emotional because you know when you accept mga ganitong award, you kind of go back to where you started."

Regine then started crying again.

She admitted that she remembered her late father Gerardo Velasquez, more popularly known as Mang Gerry in showbiz.

"Naalala ko yung tatay ko. Kaya nga di ako makakanta ng matino, e, kasi I was trying not to cry.

"I guess it's also wonderful, it's a wonderful feeling being recognized for what I love to do, just singing, so it's wonderful."
