Lea Salonga praised by the American press for "A Whole New World" rendition

The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that Lea Salonga "proved that her voice is just as strong as it was in the early '90s." It was 1992 when Lea served as the singing voice of Jasmine in the Disney animated movie Aladdin.

Our very own Lea Salonga is once again capturing the hearts of people the world over as she joins opera supergroup Il Divo on their European tour. Titled A Musical Affair, the song sets include the well-loved Disney classic "A Whole New World."

A performance of Il Divo and Lea Salonga singing the song was filmed and uploaded to YouTube last April 2014 but recently came to the surface as news of the A Musical Affair tour came out.

The video of accomplished Broadway veteran actress singing this beloved song with renowned pop group Il Divo has gone viral due to press attention as she begins her tour with them.

It was in 1992 when audiences first saw Disney's Aladdin and fell in love with the singing voice of Princess Jasmine voiced by Lea Salonga.

Now, 22 years later, especially with the recent "A Whole New World" video coming out, Lea's voice has been described as sounding just as crystal-clear as she did back then.

The world press heaped praises upon the Filipina singer just as it did when Lea raked in Tony and Olivier awards for her performances in Miss Saigon and Les Miserables.

E! Online remembers how nearly everyone back in 1992 obsessed over Jasmine's hair and wished for Aladdin to whisk them away on a magic carpet ride. The E! Online article--titled Lea Salonga, AKA Princess Jasmine, Sings A Whole New World and Nails It 20 Years After Aladdin--adds, "more than anything, we wanted to have a voice like Lea Salonga, who is and always will be the original (singing) voice of Princess Jasmine. And 22 years later, she can still nail the crap out of 'A Whole New World.'"

Aladdin went on to win the 1993 Academy Awards for Best Music, Original Score and Best Music, Original Song for "A Whole New World." It was during this Oscar ceremony that Lea Salonga and Brad Kane performed the song live in a grand musical production number.

Twenty-two years later, based on the video of Lea Salonga now singing with Il Divo, E! Online promises "trust us, 'A Whole New World' will still give you goose bumps, thanks in most part to the Filipina beauty and her angelic voice."

The website of trade magazine The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that Lea "proved that her voice is just as strong as it was in the early '90s."

The Huffington Post headlined that Lea singing "'A Whole New World' more than 21 years later, brings us to tears all over again."

They add that the singing voice behind Disney's animated classic is "still going strong."

Huff Po, as the website is fondly called, even referenced another version of Lea Salonga singing this Disney favorite, "Salonga also reprised the number last November, in a breathtaking impromptu performance with Glee star Darren Criss at Marie's Crisis in New York City."

Hollywood Life, yet another popular American site, captioned their link of the Lea Salonga-Il Divo video very aptly, "Lea Salonga, the original Princess Jasmine from Disney’s Aladdin, transported us back in time (specifically to 1992) with her magical performance of ‘A Whole New World.’ Watch it here."

They are pleasantly surprised that The Voice of the Philippines coach Lea Salonga, 43 years old, "sounds exactly the same 21 years later! The woman behind Aladdin's Princess Jasmine can still really rock!"

As they encourage their readers to watch the video, the publication remarks, "we guarantee that you’ll fall in love with the Disney classic all over again! It has been more than two decades since the Tony-Award-winning singer belted out the beloved ballad, which is why this video makes for the ultimate Throw Back Thursday (#TBT)."

MTV says that today, aside from us still wishing we'd have a magic carpet ride and a pet like Abu, "one more thing that’s remained awesome: Princess Jasmine’s voice."

MTV calls Lea Salonga their "favorite crop-top wearing Disney princess." As they posted the April 2014 YouTube video on their recent article, MTV candidly remarks, "you'll notice that it took four men to sing Aladdin’s part of the classic song, while Salonga can handle the Jasmine part just fine on her own, thankyouverymuch. Girl power much?"

Like Huff Po, MTV can't help but bring up another recent memorable performance by Lea Salonga, saying, "Gf has been rocking the throwback tune for years, including last year, when she performed a duet with Glee star Darren Criss and a crowd of enthusiasts at a piano bar."
