Simple lang, natural” is how Super Tekla describes his brand of comedy.
“Siyempre kailangan yung timing, atake, natural lang,” he said at the recent press conference for The Sweetheart and The Balladeer (Fun Night Only), the Julie Anne San Jose-Christian Bautista concert that the comedian will be guesting in.
“Be yourself,” he added. “Hindi kailangang maging OA para magpatawa.”
But some people have contrary observations regarding Super Tekla’s weekly comedy show with fellow GMA-7 talent Boobay.
The two gender-bending comedians host The Boobay and Tekla Show (TBATS) that airs on GMA-7 every Sunday night.
It had a segment called “Binibining BiGAYtin (Puwedeng Mahalin Pero Bawal Timbangin)” until the grand finals was held just last January 26, 2020.
In that segment, three overweight gay men competed in a pageant while the spiels, jokes, and punch lines revolved around their obesity.
During the grand finals, for instance, Contestant No. 1 Porky Diva was asked in the Q&A portion this question: “Ano ang mas masakit: ipagpalit ka ng iyong dyowa sa babaeng mataba o sa payat na bakla?”
Sephie gave the most sensible answer, zeroing on the garbage problem and offering a grassroots-level solution.
She then emerged as the grand winner, taking home 25 kilos of rice, a gift certificate for liposuction services, and a weighing scale.
First runner-up Tiny Fulgencio was given a tape measure, while second runner-up Porky Diva got a jumping rope made of abaca.
For those who don’t appreciate the way Super Tekla and his show make people laugh, the comedian could only shrug his shoulders.
He simply said, “Wala,” when asked for his reaction to negative comments.
“Tinitingnan ko na lang kung sino yung may gusto,” he pointed out. “Siguro naman mas marami yung nakaka-appreciate sa ’yo kesa sa hindi.
“But I love them both. Ganun lang talaga, you cannot please everybody.”
Needless to say, Super Tekla would rather focus on his work, as blessings continue to pour in.
He’s pumped up to be part of the GMA Network-produced concert The Sweetheart and The Balladeer (Fun Night Only), which will take place on February 8 at the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Center in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.
This early Valentine’s Day musical treat, as directed by Paolo Valenciano, is the third leg of the roadshow that had been staged in Iloilo City and Cagayan City in 2019.
The setlist for Kapuso prime singers Christian Bautista and Julie Anne San Jose will revolve around love songs and inspiring tunes.
Meanwhile, Super Tekla and fellow comedian Donita Nose will inject humor into dealing with today’s dating trends and recalling their own past relationships.
Completing the guest list is Kyline Alcantara, who is expected to add a youthful vibe to the event.
