National Artist for Literature Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera, singers Noel Cabangon, Cooky Chua, and other artists will join the fundraiser Kape’t Ka Pete: Music & Poetry night for Jose F. Lacaba.
The event will take place on March 7 (Saturday) from 6 p.m. onwards at the Kamuning Bakery Cafe at Judge Jimenez Street corner K-1st Street, Brgy. Kamuning, Quezon City.
Each entrance ticket is P250 pesos with free Benguet mountain Arabica coffee or San Miguel beer with free pandesal bread.
Proceeds will go to support the medical needs of the multi-awarded poet, editor, screenwriter, songwriter, and veteran journalist Jose "Pete" F. Lacaba. Donors are encouraged to contribute more.
The singers, poets, writers, and actors who have volunteered to perform songs and poetry include, besides Dr. Bien Lumbera, Jim Paredes, Ricky Davao, Gemino Abad, Skarlet Brown, Hazel Faith, Mike Coroza, Marne Kilates, Celina Cristobal, Fidel Rillo, Vim Nadera, Charlson Ong, Cavite Young Writers Association (CYWA), and Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika at Anyo (LIRA). Event hosts will be Gou de Jesus and Vim Nadera.
Pete Lacaba was first introduced to this 81-year-old Kamuning Bakery by his close friend, the late actress Nida Blanca.
Lacaba wrote the screenplays of Mike de Leon's Sister Stella L. (1984), Lino Brocka's Orapronobis (1989), Chito Roño's Eskapo (1995), among others. He served as executive editor of YES! Magazine from 2003 to 2018.
