Fil-Australian singer/actor James Wright on his unexpected success: “There’s always a rainbow after the rain.”

Fil-Australian singer/actor James Wright didn't win the grand prize in the GMA-7 talent/reality show Anak Ko 'Yan, but that didn't stop him from creating hit songs, and eventually earning the title, GMA Prince of Teleserye Theme Songs.

“I’m not saying na distraction yung babae, but for me kasi, I work better if I’m more focused on what I want.

“And I don’t want to make pahirap sa babae kasi if I’m busy, and I can not go see her, maybe the relationship will die, so parang masasayang lang yung relationship, e.

“And I want to be stable in my life so I can provide, not only for myself and my family, but if ever may girlfriend ako, I can provide for her, too.

“Kasi I don’t want to be dependent on other people,” sabi ni James.

“I just want to be motivated and I have a lot of goals that I want to achieve. And sana my new album, along with the help of GMA, E-Talent, and Vehnee Saturno will be the reason I can hold my solo concert. Maybe I can invite my idols, Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano, to my concert,” dagdag pa niya.

GROWING POPULARITY.

“Ikaw ‘Yon" was written by Vehnee Saturno.

“He produced it, he composed the whole thing, and it was part of my self-titled album under GMA Records," ang sabi ni James.

“This is not the first time that a single in my album is being released. Actually, in the past, two of the songs from my album, 'Sana’y Ikaw' and 'Kung Hindi Ikaw' were released.

“'Sana’y Ikaw' was the theme song of the teleserye Carmela, starring Marian Rivera and Alden Richards.

“'Kung Hindi Ikaw' was the the theme song of My Destiny, starring Carla Abellana and Tom Rodriguez.

“So I sort of kinda have this history of having my songs as theme songs of teleseryes which became hits also. So I hope 'Ikaw ‘Yon' will be another hit."

“Although I finished only in the Top 5 [of Anak Ko ‘Yan], sabi ng South Border [song] there’s always a rainbow after the rain. Not finishing first or second or third, parang that was the rain.

“But with the help of Vehnee Saturno, E-Talent, GMA Records, and GMA Network, the blessing of 'Sana’y Ikaw' came out and it was chosen as a theme song and I made my mark in the industry.

“Parang tinatanong nila, 'Who is this James Wright?'

“The second blessing came out with 'Kung Hindi Ikaw.'

“I didn’t expect it to be a hit teleserye theme song. I guess because of 'Kung Hindi Ikaw,' it gave me an opportunity to pursue an acting role when they gave me this little wedding singer part at the end of My Destiny.

“So they found out who James Wright was. It was the final day of My Destiny and I was trending on Twitter, reaching almost the top position.

“So it was very surprising to me. Then I became part of a teleserye and I got a kontrabida role in Strawberry Lane.

“It was just overwhelming, parang I can’t believe hanggang ngayon na parang I have a name now, I’m considered a professional singer na.

“Kasi ever since I was five, I was holding a mic na, so it’s really a dream come true. Sana magtuluy-tuloy pa.”

Pakiramdam niya ba ay sikat na siya?

“A lot of people have said that to me na, ‘James, sikat ka na!’

“Sabi ko, ‘Hindi naman, e.’ Pero that’s my way of staying grounded talaga.

“What I think is that I always do my best and I’m doing this for the people who support me, who love me, because without them, I won’t be here in the industry.”

POP HEARTTHROB.

“The management, GMA and E-Talent, together with Vehnee Saturno, we came into an agreement na parang, yes, I can do crooning, I can do ballads, I can sing Michael Bublé and Frank Sinatra, but it’s 2015 so let’s try something new.

“So this is the Pop Heartthrob era of James Wright. Siyempre yung singing Michael Bublé and crooning will aways be in my heart kasi that’s my forte.

“Pero it’s time for the people to see a new James Wright.”

SINGING VS ACTING.

“Kasi when I tried acting, I like it. Pero the singing I like it as well.

“Parang I like both and sana there’s a way to balance them. For me, acting… I wouldn’t say it's a sideline, but it’s my second preference.”

“Never, I mean I will always prioritize singing over acting.

“Pero I really wanna try new things kasi sayang naman yung kabataan ko, e.

“Pero singing will never leave my heart. It is why I was known. I grew up listening to my mom sing.

“When I was in my mom’s womb, she put the headphone to her stomach so I can hear the music.”

FOR MOMMY.

“My inspiration is my mom. This is my way of saying thank you to my mom. Kahit maliit na bagay ito, it’s just one of the many things I plan to do—just to say thank you to her for everything.

“Hopefully, the fans will get the message na parang they have to be thankful to their parents also.

“My music video shows that this is my ideal woman, so parang the girl that I’m gonna marry in the future will be like my mom.”
