Elvis Presley impersonator Chris Connor brings tribute act to Manila

The World Famous Elvis Show will be staged at Resorts World Manila from April 24-26, 2015.

Great and exciting! That’s how Chris Connor, voted as the World’s Best Elvis Performer, describes his first visit here in the Philippines.

“It feels great to be here in the Philippines. The people are so warm and welcoming. This is the first time that I’m going to perform here and I’m so excited to perform for everybody,” said Chris.

He arrived in Manila last April 22 for a three-night concert series at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila, made possible by Royale Chimes Concerts and Events Inc.

Slated on April 24, 25 and 26, 8 pm, Chris Connor and his band The Steels will headline a show titled The World Famous Elvis Show.

The concert highlights and recreates the most memorable performances of music icon and King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press got the chance to interview Chris during the presscon held last April 22 at RJ Bistro, Dusit Hotel in Makati City.

WORLD’S BEST ELVIS PERFORMER. Voted in 2014 as the first-ever World’s Best Elvis Performer via a worldwide official fan poll, Chris is excited to perform in Manila for all Elvis fanatics and perhaps to a whole new generation who just hear his songs on the radio or CD and watch his shows on video.

During the presscon, PEP asked Chris how does it feel to be voted as the World’s Best Elvis Performer?

“Well, I’m not really one of those in competition, this was thrown out to Elvis’ fans all over the world. I don’t claim to be the best, I just want to put on the best shows that I can. But at the end of it all, it was my name that comes into first place. I’m not gonna argue with that. That’s what the fans think of it and I’m so grateful. I’m not gonna say I’m the best in the world, I just want people to appreciate the work I put to recreate the shows that Elvis have done before.”

Chris admitted that at the young age of 8, he was already a fan of Elvis because he grew up listening to the music of the King of Rock and Roll. He was also a fan of the '50s, '60s and '70s music, the era when Elvis’ songs were big hits.

What’s his most favorite among Elvis’ songs?

“Probably 'If I Can Dream.' He did it in 1968, it’s the song he did for for 1968 comeback special. If you listen to the words of the song it kinda reflect what’s going on in America. It’s really a meaningful and powerful song.”

LIFE BEFORE ELVIS. Who is Chris Connor before he became Elvis?

“Before I did Elvis, I worked in the construction. I used to drive machines. I got strings of job before that, like in the Navy. When I was in college, I did graphic design.”

So, he’s a jack of all trades?

“Possibly, yeah, I’ve been called that before.”

At what age did he started to become an Elvis impersonator?

“Somebody suggested it when I was 18 until I’m 20. But I would say I don’t have the guts to perform then infront of an audience. But as I get older and gain confidence, it was like seven years ago when I started to perform as Elvis. At first, it feels uncomfortable but over time you get used to the audience and feel how it works. And now it’s like second nature,” said the 36-year-old performer.

Chris has played in sold out shows across Europe – Ireland, Holland, the UK; Australia; and the United States – Atlanta, New Orleans, New York, and Elvis’ hometown, Memphis.
This 2015, he’s bound to make Filipinos happy, especially Elvis’ fans, through his three-night concert series in Manila dubbed as The World Famous Elvis Show.

Witness Chris belt out Elvis Presley’s classics from "Proud Mary," "Can’t Help Falling In Love," "Hound Dog," "Blue Seude Shoes" to "Suspicious Minds" and more, in this rare occasion when the world’s most revered tribute act brings fans down to memory lane.

Tickets to The World Famous Elvis Show are available at all Ticketworld, SM Tickets and Ticketnet outlets.
