Mark Bautista returns home to take the stage at Resorts World Manila’s award-winning Newport Performing Arts Theater this May 29.
After a run of sold-out shows at West End’s National Theater in London, Bautista returns triumphant and is already set to perform Here Sings Love, a special homecoming show for fans and followers alike.
Performing songs that have influenced his long musical journey, Bautista is poised to light up the stage together with fellow star Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis, and Jon Santos. Cris Villongco and Monica Cuenca from the cast of RWM’s next major stage production, Bituin Walang Ningning: The Musical will also be part of the concert.
Scheduled on May 29, 2015, the show promises Bautista at his best under the direction of Louie Ocampo and stage veteran Freddie Santos.
Here Sings Love is Bautista’s way of saying thanks for the overflowing support he received from his countrymen during his time as one of the main cast of Here Lies Love, a revolutionary musical that traces the astonishing journey of First Lady Imelda Marcos. Bautista shined on the big stage playing the part of one of Philippine history’s most polarizing personalities, former President Ferdinand Marcos.
“The London’s West End is the playground of famous actors like David Suchet and Benedict Cumberbatch, so I feel like I have to keep up and make good of my acting,” Bautista said during the press launch of Bituing Walang Ningning: The Musical.
Having only recently tried his hands on theater arts, Bautista has limited but nonetheless worthy on-stage experience which includes a portrayal of Crisostomo Ibarra in Ryan Caybyab’s musical Noli Me Tangere (2011) as well as a part in the main cast of Atlantis Theatricals’ The Full Monty (2013).
For his next theater role, Bautista will take on a part in RWM’s stage adaptation of the classic drama Bituing Walang Ningning. Bautista will be playing the role of Nico Escobar, a part originally played by Christopher De Leon in the 1985 blockbuster movie which was later reprised by Ryan Agoncillo for the story’s 2006 television re-make.
Bautista will be starring opposite stage veteran Cris Villonco, who will play the part of antagonist Lavinia Arguelles, and Monica Cuenco, winner of RWM and VIVA Communications’ talent search for the lead role of Dorina Pineda.
The upcoming musical will mark the first time a contemporary drama has crossed over mainstream Filipino media. From print, cinema, television, and now on stage, Bituing Walang Ningning: The Musical promises to shine anew under the bright lights of RWM’s NPAT with Santos also at the helm.
