Jed Madela hopes to disprove naysayers with release of new album, Iconic

Jed Madela explains what he aims to prove with the release of his new Iconic album: “Siguro the frustration was there, and I really wanted to prove to everybody… kasi 'di ba, lumabas yung kuwento-kuwento na nawala na ang boses ko, hindi na ganun katulad ng dati. So yun nga inisip ko na I have to make this album to put all those talks to rest.”

“Yun nga, I wasn’t in tiptop shape when I was recording it.

“Siguro the frustration was there, and I really wanted to prove to everybody… kasi 'di ba, ,lumabas yung kuwento-kuwento na nawala na ang boses ko, hindi na ganun katulad ng dati.

“So yun nga inisip ko na I have to make this album to put all those talks to rest,” sabi ni Jed nang makausap siya ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at iba pang press.

RECALLING THE SCARY EXPERIENCE.

Kuwento pa ni Jed, “We started recording August of last year.

“I lost my voice in December and January, so two months po iyon na walang kanta.

“So nakaka-praning, nakakatakot.

Patuloy niya, “I remember that was December 1, I was at the Aliw Awards and yun nga I won Entertainer of the Year.

“Nung umakyat na ako sa stage to receive my award, then to sing, as in napi-feel ko yung boses ko slowly nawawala.

“Until nag-panic na ako, we had to call the doctor, nag-inject na siya.

“And the next day, I couldn’t talk, kahit whisper wala, as in wala talagang boses. So I had to have myself checked, and yun nga, nakita nila yung throat ko swollen.

“Yung pink dapat na kulay, it was really red. Sobrang pula, and may mga ugat na kung hindi naagapan, it could have ruptured.”

Nung time na iyon daw ay ilang linggo raw hindi nakapagsalita si Jed, as in total voice rest ang ginawa niya.

Sabi pa niya, “Well, I’m in total voice rest talaga.

“Walang salita, walang kanta, everything was text or everything was sulat. I think fully recovered ako third week of January pa, so wala talaga akong boses the whole December.”

Ano ba ang naging cause nito?

“Overworked po, overused, pagod, stress, yun po,” lahad niya.

REALIZATION.

It’s only in the mind yung pagod.’

“So I was singing, I kept pushing myself, until talaga my body told me na, ‘Tama na, pagod na ako.’

“So nag-shut down na talaga yung boses ko.

“Yung realization na iyon na tao lang ako, I have to slow down, I’m not getting any younger.

“And I had to learn to say no. Ugali ko kasi yung pag may nag-i-invite sa akin, kumanta dito kumanta doon.

THANKFUL FOR SECOND CHANCE.

Pagklaro niya, “Not my greatest fear. My greatest fear is losing my family and friends.

“But one of my fears talaga is to lose my voice.

“You know, this is such a gift na ibinigay sa akin ng Diyos. I would admit na I kind of abuse it, but I’m happy na binigyan ako ng second chance para alagaan.

“So I’m happy na I was given another chance to take care of this voice and to finish my album.”

ICONIC ALBUM.

Kabilang sa track list ang “Like A Prayer” (by Madonna), “Love Takes Time” (Mariah Carey), “Didn’t We Almost Have It All” (Whitney Houston), “That’s The Way It Is” (Celine Dion—na kinanta niya with 5th Gen), “Beautiful” (Christina Aguilera), “Evergreen” (Barbra Streisand), “Don’t Wanna Lose You Now” (Gloria Estefan), “If Love Is Blind” (Tiffany), “You Mean The World To Me” (Toni Braxton), at ang duet nila ni Regine Velasquez ng classic na “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” Isinama rin ni Jed dito ang original composition niyang “Welcome To My World.”

We Almost Have It All."
