Joanna Ampil, one of West End’s finest, is back in the spotlight with her latest single “The Only Place to Be.”
The thespian-turned-recording artist is now re-establishing her name in the Philippine music scene after years of working on the international stage.
The singer-actress has taken on major roles such as Miss Saigon’s Kim back in 1993, Les Miserables’ Eponine in year 2000 and Fantine in 2003. She also starred in the Philippine re-staging of The Sound of Music as Maria Rainer in 2011, and has toured Europe with the West End cast of Cats’ as Grizabella in 2013.
“The Only Place to Be” is an uplifting piece of pop highliting Joanna’s expressive vocals. The song was written by Ed Fox, and was recorded and produced in Los Angeles by Christian de Walden and Ralf Stemmann.
The track is the second single after “Hanggang Saan,” from her self-titled album released by Viva Records, launched back in mid-2014.
The music video of her new song, directed by Paulo Villaluna, has just made its debut on MTV Pinoy.
“The Only Place to Be” is just one of the many tracks from Joanna Ampil, which also includes “Hanggang Saan,” composed by Vehnee Saturno.
Other songs in the album include “Won’t You Love Me Again,” “Kung Maaari,” “Old Souls,” Smile,” “Init Sa Magdamag,” and “Fragments of Forever.”
Moreover, Joanna Ampil’s latest record features a duet with balladeer Mark Bautista in “Kumusta Ka.”
Concert king Martin Nievera also sings in the song “Never Thought I’d Feel This Way,” while Bristish pop-classical crossover group Blake is in the track “Kailangan Kita.”
