YouTube singer Johann Mendoza entertained his fans at the Music Museum during his first major concert titled My Way, My Time.
Dubbed as “The Bad Boy of RnB," he popularized renditions of '90s ballads such as “I Have Nothing”, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” and “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You” on YouTube.
Johann is a former member of the all-male ensemble Voices of 5 (Vo5) that features The Voice PH Season 2 finalist Daryl Ong as a member. Daryl was also one of the special guests during Johann's concert.
MY WAY, MY TIME. Johann opened his concert with performances of his YouTube hit covers along with a band.
The whole stage and mood was very cozy, reminiscent of a very laidback '90s R&B and ballads music night.
Johann sang one of his YouTube hits, “If Ever You’re In My Arms Again,” with special guest, theatre actress Kim Molina who appears in Rak of Aegis.
Johann and Daryl also performed along with fellow Vo5 members who were present at the concert.
Fans (who call themselves Johannatics and Darylnatics) went wild as their idols performed “Bang Bang."
Daryl also sang a ballad version of the Willie Revillame original, “Ikaw Na Nga.”
Johann then performed an original track titled “For Better Or For Worse,” which he described as a song perfect for couples in long-term relationships.
Other performances during the concert were from hip-hop artists Dcoy and Muriel, who sang their latest song, “Bebelabs.”
Johann ended the show with a mash-up of Michael Jackson hits while performing with dance crew The Addlibs. He also gave his version of an OPM song with Dcoy.
The YouTube singer thanked everyone who supported his first major show, including the Daryl Ong fans who came to watch that night.
“Thank you all, thank you all for being here tonight and having fun with us. Marami pong salamat sa inyo.”
NO TO COMPETITION. Johann told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other media in a post-concert interview that putting up a concert was tough, especially when it comes to choreography.
He pointed out that the most challenging part was dancing with The Addlibs.
He looks up to '90s R&B artists for inspiration and local artists such as Jay-R and Kris Lawrence. He also considers his former bandmate Daryl Ong as one of his favorite artists.
When asked if he is willing to join a singing competition, Johann said that he does not have any immediate plans of auditioning for a talent show.
He also admitted that he wants to be more part of mainstream media by appearing on TV shows while still being an indie singer.
