“Please tell everyone to come and see us.
“This is gonna be my 33rd year in the business.
“And we thought that maybe we should give it in a perfect place to celebrate in the most beautiful theater in all over the Philippines,” pagtukoy niya sa pinaka-moderno at high-tech theater ngayon sa bansa, ang The Theatre sa Solaire.
“But of course, we can’t do this without Louie Ocampo,” sabi pa ng Concert King sabay sulyap sa katabi niyang pamosong composer/arranger na sa maraming taon ay naging ka-tandem niya bilang musical director para sa mga concerts at shows niya here and abroad.
PRESSURE. Ilang foreign acts at concerts na ang ginawa sa The Theatre ng Solaire. Ano ang kanyang feeling kaugnay nito?
“It’s pressure! Pressure.
“That’s why I was telling Gina, my sister, also the founder and head of Full House who’s doing the show for the Solaire.
“Uhm… it’s pressure because it’s gonna be the first and we wanna do it big. It’s like my audition.
“If you perform here at The Theatre in Solaire, then you know you’ve made it,” pahayag niya.
REMINISCING. Kinuwento rin ni Martin na may historical significance din pala itong darating na concert niya.
Aniya, “There’s this trivia… almost 32 years to the date… September 17, Folk Arts Theater there was the repeat of my very first concert ever.
“Like I said… ever! It was the worst concert of them all!” natatawang pabiro pang sabi ni Martin.
“Wala pang aircon no’n [sa Folk Arts]! Hanggang ngayon wala pa rin bang aircon?” tawa niya ulit.
"The actual date was August 20,” pagtukoy niya sa kanyang first concert na ginanap nga sa Folk Arts Theater.
“Then two weeks later, there was a repeat.”
CONCERT REPERTOIRE. Ano ang puwedeng i-expect sa upcoming concert niya ngayon sa The Theatre sa Solaire?
“You’ll hear the songs that you’ve been dying for me to sing. Or… you’ve heard me sing.
“I’m sick and tired of medleys. You want full songs, right?
“But not that just my songs. We’re gonna bring a lot of… ‘coz in Vegas I’ve learned a lot about the whole casino scene.
“So we’re gonna throw some songs that you might hear in Vegas’ casinos. Plus the songs I’ve done in the last 33 years.
“It’s gonna be a long night!” nangiting pahabol pa ni Martin.
HOPING FOR REGULAR GIGS AT THE THEATRE. Is he looking forward na hindi lang isang gabi kundi magkakaroon pa ito ng repeat o kaya ay magiging series?
“Well, I’m I’m hoping that the response will be to the point na… 'Hey, let’s do a repeat and make it a series.' 'Coz if we’re gonna do a series, we should go downstairs, right?
“This hotel is just growing. I mean, my God… hopefully it would be a place where we can do… what do we call it before?
“Yeah… puwesto! Regular gig.
“For singers. Not just up-and-coming singers but singers who push up singing.
“I mean singers who should be singing nightly. That’s really the life.
“So hoping we would start that. Not just for myself but for other singers.
“We have so many single places to sing, to perform.
“This theater [The Theatre] is so in. We had Saturday Night Fever recently. Singing In The Rain is coming up.
“There’s so many things that are happening. But as far as a singer like myself, we’re just dying to sing.
“I’m looking for a place to sing. Big, small... it doesn’t really matter.
“I’ve done nightly shows, I’ve done shows in almost every hotel in the strip. I’ll be at the M Resort again in December, on the strip of Las Vegas.
“We can do that here. We should do that here.
“We have the best entertainers, the best singers, the best dancers. The bst actors, directors, choreographers, musicians… you name it, we have the very best.
“So why not here too? And the food is excellent,” panghuling nasabi ni Martin.
